"White knights" - come out come out wherever you are!

I am so sick of reading new posts lambasting the "white knights" before you've even made your point, as though constructive criticism is forbidden around here!

Who are these white knights who will shoot you down simply for disagreeing with the direction our faultless leaders are taking with our beloved game?

Almost all of the posts I read that start like this get shot down for being lame posts, NOT because you dared to disagree with these "white knights"!

Most people here, even the zealots like myself are happy and indeed want to talk about the games obvious flaws - just in an intelligent way please.

So who are these "White Knights" going around making everyone's life a misery and preventing people from expressing their opinion? Seriously who? Accusations of private threats etc. is a serious business and I would like to know if you really exist. If not the people doing the accusing need dealing with.

So if you are a bona fine white knight, inacable of rational discussion I challenge you to out yourself here for the world to see! I suspect though that they are a figment of overactive imaginations and are being confused with people sick and tired of opinion and rhetoric being restated over and over as fact in an unconstructive fashion.

If you really are being harassed around here you need to report it because (at least as far as the internet goes) this is a relatively civilised forum and all opinions are welcomed if they contribute to game discussion.

Or am I wrong? Wouldn't be first time! :x

Ps. This doesn't include the Star Citizen sub forum, which is beyond ridiculous!

I'm confused, are you a "white knight" trying to prove such things don't exist by making this thread, or are you actually thinking anyone who is considered a "white knight" identifies themselves with that derogatory term and will call themselves that?

I think you mean the apologists or fanboys (who are not really true fans) who throw hurdles in the way of any criticism. whiteknights is a term usually used for those people who must leap in and defend females on everything, regardless of evidence or proof...

But I get your point.

Hi. I think that FDev aren't a bunch of money-grubbing leaches and who do, actually, want to make a great game and foster a great community around it.

So that probably makes me a White Knight.

But better that than a cynical hater.

I am talking about people who supposedly hijack posts with personal attacks on anyone who criticises the game. The term is bandied around here on every other post these days, though I see little evidence of such activity. Most of the "attacks" tend to come from people criticising the game and accusing those who defend it as being fanboys!

The whole thing is extremely childish, but then this is the Internet! My point is that the blind defenders of the game seem to me to be almost non existent and those accusing others of sending insulting private messages need to contact the mods about that if it really is happening.

I am open to any kind of intelligent discussion, but I am not one who thinks the game is perfect in the first place - so no, I am not a white knight. Love the game but am a realist. :)

Not a White Knight, I just like to scorch silly posts and leave etching comments. Trolling trolls is also fun. And generally posting nonsense, but unfortunately , there is so much here mine drowns :(
Fact is, that some of the best posts ever on this forum, have been very critical of E :D and how it was put together. Very, very well worded backed up by facts.
Thats ironical, imo.
I play the game still, ergo I must enjoy it! So there is that!

Im not sure that your definition is the definition used by people throwing the term around these forums. I don't think gender has anything to do with it. Whatever though, I am just tired of hearing it!

There are, but it is more like an occasional attitude rather than a constant personality type. Some of the so called White Knights one day call for respect and for a reasonable dialogue in one thread, and then ridicule others and waste bits with stupid posts in another. I am guilty of that too, and I think is just stupidity transversal to every position. It depends on the mood. However, as it is becoming harder and harder to defend the game, this attitude is emerging less and less. I have been ridiculed by some, in spite of expressing my criticism to ED and FD carefully, but I have also seen them same users criticizing other aspects of the game in different threads. This seems to show two things; it shows that each individual has a messy diversity of opinions that aren't necessarily consistent, and it shows a tendency towards the natural bias that makes us act as if what matter to us is what matters in reality.

There are still a few though. I used to see them consistently and strongly rejecting negative criticism, but nowadays they are much more careful, and they are acknowledging the many flaws. I think some of them realized that they are becoming an apologetic minority, but more importantly that Frontier is becoming indefensible. Perhaps they are disappointed too.

And no, this is not a civilized place, if by civilized you mean polite and reasonable.

Ah its the Alt news era/post truth era of debate in general... it means you basically just accuse your opposition of stuff they don't actually do in an attempt to ward them away.

News for most people with oppinions is the following

"Calling someone an idiot, or just saying they are wrong without any kind of counter argument that is both logical and based in reality and fact does not constitute a debate"

its something that is lost on most people. So members of the more toxic side of the forum simply label people as white knights if they sound like they are at all on the side of FDev. Think of how in America most conservatives simply attack anyone who doesn't nod and agree with them as being 'Dumb Liberals' as though being a Liberal is some kind of insult. "Oh your just a liberal" and yet they haven't heard what you have to say or bothered to even try to understand anything you might say or know about.

It is no different here, when people want debate, what they are really wanting is a chorus of nodding yes men/women

First and foremost, this is a game forum. Nothing we say here is of any consequence. We are all just typing for fun.

Secondly, I don't think the definition of a white knight is someone who just defends the game. They are the sort of people who will wade into an argument to defend someone they feel needs it. This could be, as SeaFireliv says, women. The reason this can look a little patronising is that the white knight is making the assumption that people can't argue for themselves.

So I think it's perfectly reasonable that these people should start their posts with comments like "I know the white knights will string me up for saying this but..."

Oh no!.. What have I become?

But I'm not seeing it... I'm not seeing the stringing up! I see petty arguments and childish rhetoric, but like you said people type for fun and logic be damned! ;)

I was just of the opinion that most people were here because they play the game, want to talk about the game and (presumably) like the game. Not so sure why the hell half of the posters are here these days! If they have even a passing interest in any other games besides Elite dangerous, their entire day must be taken up being impolite on different message boards! Lol

Its just a way to a-priori discredit people who might disagree. Same as with 'haters gonna hate but...'. Its just a rather cowardly way to bring an opinion. Its somewhat like having your uncle start a monologue by saying "I am not a racist, but...". You know that inevitably a poorly thought-out diatribe will commence and rather than giving it more thought a silly disclaimer is lazily slapped on top as if that stops any criticism.
