Design meeting at FD around 2013-2014:
Some guy: Seriously, how many folks are going to actually take the time to check all the star system maps and look for someone's first explored tag?
FD: OK, let's not bother then.
My point was your objection lacked any form of self-critical assessment by just stating "Your proposal has no point because I see no point in it because I wouldn't see/visit it" without actually thinking about how it might work nor weighing up whether your personal desire to actually use the proposed mechanic is actually important to anyone else. I then step in and suggest a way it might work and your response is to call a standup so we can discuss the workload this might require for FD, as if that's relevant.
The fact that any new addtion to the game would require an amount of work for FD is obvious. Just like when they decided to add first explored, first mapped and first footfall, all features I personally have invested very little of my thought/interest in, if I actually think about it. All that's being suggested is something additional along those lines that might be neat and I think it would be neat (despite probably never intending to go visit anyone's flag myself). If you don't think it's neat, cool. Explain why in ways other than "I wouldn't be able to find it/I wouldn't use it, so why bother?". Obviously, if this were implemented then the "issue" you raised (not being able to find the location" is something FD might need to consider. Does it invalidate the suggestion in any way though? Does your lack of interest in it do the same?
Our jobs are not to estimate the workload for FD. If you dislike the idea, explain why it would lessen your experience; as you might were the OP suggesting Glaives be nerfed, as an example (a proposal that directly impacts anyone who encounters Glaives, which would be a group of players who have a stake in said conversation). If you think FD should work on other stuff and think this is low priority enough to have "no point"? Yeh great, join the club. I'd love it if they fixed everything before adding new stuff, or added new stuff I personally want. This doesn't mean I'm opposed to people proposing stuff like this and discussing how it could work or additional ideas around the subject. That's not the same as coming in and going "No, I disagree with the suggestion because I can see a problem with how it'll work and so what's the point?" when you could just be talking about how it might work instead. If you're interested in the idea. Obviously, your position is that you are not. See my point? What is your stake in opposing the suggestion?
I don't think it'll ever happen and I would love a whole bunch of other things to happen first even if it did. I also think it's a nice idea and would be a neat addition to the game with lots of potential to add to it. I don't need to step in and proclaim my negative opposition to the suggestion becacuse I can think both of those things at the same time.
