Making and selling replicas of things is not that complicated legally speaking as whatever you make isn't going to be (or can be made not to be) an exact replica. And then it depends on how you market it. Using OEM material to market something is bad but saying "here is a space blaster inspired by Star Wars" is OK providing you aren't advertising it on prime time TV. Just check out ETSY.

Example: here's my 3D Printed Fallout 3 Plasma Rifle. It's as accurate as I can get it (without using actual 3D game files), it's for sale but at over 300 hrs print time I doubt Bethesda is going to get upset.

Even then, you have to get them through customs before the people who own the copyright notice that these kits exist...

Considering how many sites out there sell garage kits, it must be pretty easy.

Shockingly, customs don’t spend a lot of time looking up whether models are officially licensed lol
