If you have played 500 hours or more, (this is a completely random number,) and Elite is your jam... do you have another flight simulator installed?

I have 5 questions to ask and I have no idea how to start a poll. I hope I get the option when I submit.

Create Poll is an option only on thread creation but edit your post to list what you want and then report it to the mods with a request to become a poll.

Cliffs of Dover, IL-2, Orbiter, Lunar Flight, DCS, Battle of Stalingrad, Micrsoft Flight Simulator X.

I think I see what you are getting at, but I also like strong narrative games with ethical challenges:
Papers Please, Gone Home, Stanley Parable, Portal
And the big epic space strategy: Alpha Centauri.
And Stealth games: Thief, Alien Isolation, and to some extent Stalker though that gets kinda shooty.

Elite is my first MMO and I've taken to it like crack cocaine.

I have all 3, tho admittedly only because of VR. Elite is the only one I put serious game time investment into.

@pestcontrol, i think you are on to something....... because a large subset of the game actively do not want an arcade like game experience in elite and they shudder each time some new gamey addition is added, where as others who JUST want an arcade shooter equally shudder when they see the words immersion, or lore breaking or too gamey because those players just want a space shooter game.

ED imo has the 2 extreme types playing it (and lots in the middle) which makes FDs job of making the player base happy a bit like herding cats.

PS FSX can be very arcadey if you like, hell i have taken off and landed massive jumbo jets at Duxford air strip, thanks to being able to use the surrounding fields for extra runway, hardly a punishing sim there ;)

Strangely you missed out the best desktop simulator on the market - Aerowinx - Precision Simulator

Strangely my last question is stupid.

I wish I could switch it, but damn.

I put serious time into Elite.

But I can also cold start a Mig-21bis in my sleep.

That's pretty awesome.

I have DCS Blackshark and the Huey as well as FSX, I don't fly standard package aircraft in FSX my goto aircraft is the PMDG 737. I have not done any flying for a considerable time though.

Well FSX/P3D could be argued as arcade. DCS is merely a systems trainer.

Fly the Majestic Q400 from cold and dark, then tell me it's arcade.

Of course you have to have Active Sky, FTX Global, REX, and Air Hauler. But seriously.

There's nothing arcade about it.

All I play now days is Elite. Star citizen still isnt in a state I can enjoy (TrackIr still isnt working without weird work arounds, joystick config fiddly). I've got DSC Black Shark but dont play it. I used to play a lot of Rise of Flight, it was awesome.

There's meme that runs: "I can't fly an approach to save my life, but I can type 70 words per minute" with a picture of a modern flight computer.
I steer clear of big iron.
I can knock about in an SU-25 and get ordinance on target but apart from that it has to have propellers (or rockets or whatever we have in elite) for me.
But aerowinx looks pretty good.

This is the kind of discussion I was sure would happen.

You and 777 Driver are a couple of my favorite posters. I was pretty sure you were both serious about sims.

777's handle kind of gave it away, but whatever.

Played MSX Spitfire, Secret Weapons of the Luftwaffe, Eurofighter2000 and F22: Total Air War. Nothing more recent than that...

Wow.. those are some titles.

I rocked Flight Simulator 2.0 since I was 8. Learning about AoA, flaring, base approaches was something I had to apologize for when I was in third grade.

Hehe, my comment was to pestcontrol regarding FSX/P3D, at heart they are basically arcade style/sim platforms designed for entertainment purposes. The Q400 & Robert Radazzos PMDG team had to code the flight model outside of the platforms in order to reach a half realistic flight model, those companies model themselves on being good systems trainers, the platform itself is terrible, it was never designed to offer a high fidelity flight model, hence why only enthusiasts use those platforms.

Not bashing any of those products, I actually work in my free time as a contractor/advisor for one of these companies. My old boss is a mate of Robert Randazzo.

Hey 777Driver exactly how accurate is Aerowinx in your opinion ? ... When playing flight sims I always put everything on max difficulty (realistic) .. I thought I was doing well in FSX .. :D

My brother.

I do the PMDG 737 and Q400.

Those and A2A are the only thing I can fly... cuz they're awesome.

I would not say that ED was a Sim, however I would really like a version with start-up procedures that you could go through, I know it will never happen with ED but it would be cool.

As for flight sims I love the PMDG series of aircraft the 737ng is my favourite for accuracy and looks. I also used to fly the Captain Sim 727 another great aircraft. I forgot how much cash and time I had pumped into Flight Sims

How is cliffs of dover? I heard it was a flop.. Been waiting for a really good BoB simulator WITH a dynamic campaign.
