PvP Who is the griefer?

Hi all, first sorry about my horrible english. Im a veteran pvper, and Im hated in my Spanish forum because they call me "Griefer". This morning I went to a spanish enemy system to test his fight skills. This happens and, ... Am I the griefer?

If the attack was unprovoked, it doesn't matter if YOU consider this an enemy system, if the subject of this attack was an unwilling target, then "Griefer" is the label you will receive. Some people just do not want to be someone else's target, regardless of what mode in which they play.

No griefing here sir. he had over 2 mins to line up and get the hell out...

griefing is taking off from a pad, and being laid waste to by 50 missiles meeting you in the letterbox.

What you, OP, show is gameplay!

I find that how "griefer" is defined depends a lot on who is using it.

If you engaged with an unwilling opponent in Open, some would call that griefing because you spoiled what they were doing. Many would call that playing the game the way it was intended.

If you engaged someone in consensual PvP and high-waked out rather than fight to the death, that could be seen as poor sportsmanship. Others would call that playing the game as intended.

For what it's worth, I don't see anything in the video I would consider griefing. You were engaged with CMDR and ship comparable to you and your ship. Looks like system security showed up. When your damage got serious, you high-waked out.

Ask your critics a) how they define "griefer", and b) what you have done to earn that. There might be something to learn on both sides there. (I'm not holding my breath though. Sanity and clear, rational thought don't often appear in any internet forum.)

I think the term is way overused in a game like Elite. Killing another player is not griefing. Intentionally blocking a landing pad is griefing. Flying a shieldless Sidewinder and ramming yourself to death on another player is griefing. Even the maladjusted social misfits that like murdering new players are not really griefing. The key part of the definition of a griefer is that they are using the game mechanics in a way that was not intended.

So, no OP, you're not griefing. Killing someone in a fight is never going to be griefing.

Op, I hope the following image explains the majority of this games community.
