Whoever programmed the database of npc names deserves a medal.

As stated the people who created all the names for this game deserve a medal. The people i play with absolutely love it and we always get a kick out of stumbling across some great names such as Regular Joe Shmoe. There are also obscure sci-fi references up the wazoo and it is fantastic. Whoever came up with the names, we love you.

But that procedural generation still had to be programmed by someone. It isn't like you just open a procedural command box and type in "make me names".

Part of the kickstarter and post backers' rewards was to nominate names for the NPC name database. I don't know if those may not just be seen as Jane Doe or John Smith but may be mixed to make Jane Smith and John Doe.

FD will also have added some names. I've not seen Radiant Dawn for a while though!

I don't think they are procedural ..... how would you get ..... Ivor (I Assure You Madam) a Big One .... and also ... Mrs Trellis from South Wales ? .... to name but two :)

Correction to the first name lol is Ivor "Jest Ye Not Madam" Biggun

Yes and there was also the control of the names for the purpose of moderation

:)

I have seen "Ronnie O'Sullivan" twice (and killed him twice; he was a pirate who attacked me), as well as "Hastings E. Sussex" twice (also pirates; also died. How can 86,000 people fit in ANY ship, let alone a Sidewinder or a Cobra MkIII?). I nearly ruined Christmas one year when I was attacked by (and got the bounty for) the criminal "S. Claus"!

Question on these since I actually came across a really odd one recently. Are the full names generated or can first and second names overlap. I ask because I've seen my own first name before but more recently a NPC had my second name. Trust me, my second name isn't Smith or Taylor. It's not common so I was very surprised when this NPC was trying to interdict me.

So is it possible that the names can overlap? Am I actually a NPC out there getting up to who knows what?

Also, for my group it's Chinese Dave that is plaguing us, cross platform too. Slippery one.

Procedural generated.. lol

impossible .... I met some NPCs with names which are typical .. let me emphasize ... _T_Y_P_I_C_A_L_ .. for CZECH (which is my language) ... names like "JIRI ZAVODSKY" or "KATERINA MUSILOVA" .. those names (their structure and grammar) are so unique for Czech language and Czech language is very specific and so marginal, so I can't imagine any "procedural" software can generate names like it ... it's simply .... impossible ;) OK no problem with names "John Doe" or "Charlie Smith", but no way for names like "Jiri Zavodsky" ... or "Pavel Koubsky" etc ...

Just now I believe FD use some database of real names ... not sure how these databases were created .. maybe "Yellow Pages" from NY or London ? :)
Or those are names of real players from different platform .. like NPCs in PS4 use PC players names and vice versa ... or some mix ? But definitely those can't be JUST procedural generated names .. my $0,02
