Who's missing from each region?

… or keep them at species level but base them predominantly on the Bennett's (like the timber wolf, moose and koala being based on specific subspecies/ecotypes)…

I’d agree with this. If included at subspecies level I’d definitely go with Bennett’s.

EDIT: When i lived in Hobart they were frequent visitors in my garden and i also had to regularly dodge them whilst on fieldwork - they're such cute little dudes. As a bonus, there's a wild population on Bruny Island which has a very high proportion of leucistic individuals, which'd be great to see in-game.

North Africa: baboon

Southern Africa: blesbok
North America: wolverine
Central America: spider monkey
South America: South American coati
Arctic: muskox
Central Asia: blackbuck
East Asia: takin
Southeast Asia: lar gibbon
Europe: European bison
Oceania: emu

Central Asia: Crab-eating macaque
Guessing this is a typo? Since they are Southeast Asian animals.

I would also recommend expanding the definition to Inner/Central Asia, so it covers a bigger region. An additional category, South Asia, is also needed, as I'm seeing a lot of submissions with Indian animals being put in the Central Asian category, which should only contain Palearctic animals, not Indomalayan.

You could also add East Africa to the Southern Africa category.

I'll link the definitions below for clarification:

I personally added the east africa and indian subcontinent cathegories because i felt the same way.

Hm, let's see...

North Africa: African Crested Porcupine
West/Central Africa: Red River Hog
Southern Africa: another unique antelope, e.g. Gerenuk, Eland or Kirk's Dik-Dik; or - if Madagascar counts here - the Fossa. Secretary Bird?
North America: American Black Bear (I wouldn't actually be too happy to get them, but they're the only NA animal I can think of that would be a genuinely worthy addition at this point)
Central America: Collared Peccary
South America: literally any New World Monkey, but preferably either Howler or Spider Monkey
Arctic: Musk Ox or Wolverine
Central Asia: Takin
East Asia: Père David's Deer (another deer, and these are gorgeous animals!)
Southeast Asia: Lowland Anoa (we need a companion for the babirusa! plus they would be perfect for an islands pack)
Europe: Wild Boar or Red Deer (I don't actually think we need too many more species from Europe, but if we do get another one, it'd be between these too and the choice would depend on whether we get another deer/swine from another continent or not)
Oceania: Any Tree Kangaroo (although an Emu would be most essential here, and a wallaby, the kiwi and the tasmanian devil are very urgently needed additions in their own right)

They're not really listed here as categories, but also Blackbuck for South Asia/India and Gelada for East Africa.

North Africa: Porcupine

East Africa: Somali wild donkey

Southern Africa: nothing. This region is saturated imo.

North America: Wapiti

Central America: West Indian manatee

South America: Mara

Arctic: Musk ox

Central Asia: Takin

East Asia: small ungulate like the Musk deer or Japanese serow

South Asia (India): Nilgai

Middle East: Sand cat

Southeast Asia: large ungulate such as banteng or anoa.

Europe: Red deer!!! This is a major absence along with the Wild boar! Wisent too. And the Eurasian brown bear. But those look a lot like in game species so it is hard to advocate for them. But still I think the wisent at least deserves to be added as it presents a different niche from the American bison and is a completely different species.

Oceania: Wallaby!!! Any species.

North America: Wolverine (though iconically, I'd go with the American Black Bear, I think the wolverine would be much more unique)

North Africa: Crested porcupine/Hamadryas baboon
West/Central Africa: Mantled guereza (a slender snouted crocodile would also be really neat)
Southern Africa: Secretary bird (if considering Madagascar, a Fossa would also be essential)
North America: Collared peccary (honestly, just missing something from the Southwest
Central America: Geoffroy's spider monkey
South America: Golden lion tamarin ( howler would be cool too)
Arctic: Musk ox
Central Asia: (I don't really think there's a species I consider essential, even tough a Markhor would be cool)
