Why Advanced Docking & Supercruise Assist is Worth IT

See Subject:

1) because after 3000+ manual dockings - YOU DESERVE IT
2) After 4 beers and 1 cup of brandy why risk a 5M credit payout (I could'a done it on manual but why?)

I've gotten to the point with ED that the only way to really have fun with it is to - well - drink too much and fly anyway...

YEE HAH!

I agree with this attitude toward them. I have never used SCA but I use autodock a lot when A-B hauling & repairing stations because docking a T-9 or Cutter is a bit of a chore.

For most ships I don't use autodock, the module slot is usually more usefully used to hold an HRP or DSS.

An SCA on the module list is a handy way to IFF a stranger too.

SCA is handy for exploration. De-throttle ensures you don't smack the star on entry if you're distracted, and Orbit allows you to enter a shallow planetary orbit for photo opps or scouting for interesting surface features. I dropped an extra AFMU (which I never use anyway) for an SCA (which I use 30% of the time. Easy choice IMO.

Even though I fly 100% Flight Assist Off, being equipped with an Advanced Docking Computer is simply the best way to fly a Beluga. I also have it on some mission running craft as being able to hand over control to the ADC means I can go through missions --> galaxy map --> system map --> plot route, while the ADC either lands the craft or puts us through the mailslot and clear of the station. Supercruise Assist would be good for mission running were it not for the fact it covers most of the journey at 75% throttle, Current system I'm working in the starports are nearly 100k LS from the star, putting on SCA for that journey would be a quality of life feature, but not if its going to make an already lengthy journey take 25% longer. Really the journeys that would theoretically benefit most from SCA are the ones where it is least useful due to the 75% limit.

SCA speeds up getting to a node like USS or stations. It takes 1 minute normally once you hit 6 seconds. This can speed this up by a very large amount. It's invaluable to anyone constantly going into instances. Traders and node farmers should use it just because of the saved travel time.

Doesn't stop interdictions as far as I can tell though.

ADC is one of the best things to have for shieldless builds. It's great for maxed out transport missions. And for naked cargo ships and naked explorers...

I used a shieldless Cutter (first time I'd ever flown the ship !) for the relief of WHN following the Enclave II ... all that beryllium ! .... but the ADC would usually scrape the side pod entering the slot, so cost me a few thousand in repairs each time. Not a big issue, but it's not yet perfect. A lot lot better than it used to be, though.

I do use super cruise assist on occasion as that lets me step away while still making progress somewhere. Docking computer I have never used but I imagine I wouldnt have the patience.

There may be tricks with the ADC to help with smuggling. You just need to apply the correct angle and boost in some cases and then manually go in and then turn it back on if needed inside for a fast landing.

Unfortunately, interdictions and dropping into a station instance are the Supercruise Assist's big liabilities. Interdiction should be self explanatory, but the problem with dropping in to a station is it doesn't dethrottle and will just fly into the side of the station if you've stepped away for a sec. Coming back in to a rebuy screen is an unpleasant surprise... But the ADC is pretty great. I'm running passengers in Robigo at the moment, and an ADC meant I could free up a slot from a shield to another cabin. 10 cabins in a beluga means at LEAST $20,000,000 a run. Almost $30,000,000 if I get a few $3,000,000 passengers in the mix
