I just figured out how to do it on the PC. I've been playing for a month, and while I could zoom in and out, I couldn't get the hang of anything else. Well, this afternoon I was playing with the camera controls, and finally got it working for me. As a result, I get to see my pretty magic space car now:

I justify buying cosmetics like this: Before I had kids I used to go out drinking many times a month, happily spending £4 a pint and buying large rounds etc without blinking an eye. Now I no longer go out drinking... A paintjob is one pint. A ship kit is the taxi home.

I didn't buy anything for a bit; spent £41 last night catching up; and I don't play much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
It usually starts off like this for me:
"Hmmm... new colours for what, ENGINE TRAILS? What idiot would buy that?"
then
"Ya know ...They do look kinda nice.... but naahhh who's gonna look at them? If they're seeing my engine trails, I'm RUNNING from them!"
and then a little later ...
"I could always look at them with the Camera suite..."
... and then I checkout at the Frontier store with 3 engine colours, 4 weapon colours, 3 ship kits, 5 paintjobs and 4 flight suit packs in cart....
