Why am I sat crying in my gaming chair - despite ED being the greatest game

It's a small world dognosh. My R1 did its 200.74mph speed test at Woodbridge!

Oh wow !!!! Small indeed, friend me ingame(dognosh)
I managed 214 mph after modding for a year or 2, then I stopped cause I did what I wanted to do(break 200 legitimately with proper electronics ,as speedo hugely inaccurate, and do it safely)

This is a super-cool project, but you're going to fall foul of Frontier's ToS because the memory scraping is a galactic-sized no-no for them.

Alas, it's currently the only way you guys have to get useful/required data to drive your hardware.

I'd love for example to get just some live updates on a ship's or SRV's LAT/LON coordinates when on or near a planet surface. That'd be super handy. But nope.

It'd be great if Xbox and/or PS4 players could somehow transmit their Player Journals to a PC, so they could run apps like EDDiscovery and my Captain's Log, and others. But nope.

I truly hope Frontier do start providing all these needed and wanted pieces of data generated by the game - so much cool stuff could be done with it.

I just want my chair to move again, without treading on anyones toes. I wouldn't have a clue about how to do memory grabbing coding - I just use a plugin that was developed by someone else and has no useful function other than to move the chair. This could be deemed ignorant on my part. I can use a joystick plugin but its a very poor comparison when playing ED.

Added rep to the op but just wanted to ask, was this a serious question? I only ask because Ive seen similar setups which are entirely home made and mostly from old junk.

Mean no disrespect to op even though it does have a very creative look about it...very impressive and very comfy by the looks of that sofa in the middle ^

Yes - serious question. My chair is entirely home-made using (mostly) new parts. I can do 10 hrs in it - its that comfy !

Genuinely meant no disrespect...thats impressive, really. Good luck with the project m8...see now thats something I would pay for because Im disabled and cant use standard office chairs. I cant tolerate standard chairs fer more than 30 minutes at a time. The chair in that picture is very similar to the old suspension rocker chairs a few years back...300 quid they were but damn were they sweet chairs. Rocked so hard, ye had to bolt it into a solid floor although that was fer racing games from yesteryear when wheels and pedals were all the rage. Until this, all Ive seen are modified cockpits or "command centres" fer this genre of games...thats why your example is truly impressive. Dont see one of those every day ^

Respect for making it but am suprised how many people expect FD to bend over backwards and spend development time on rather than at the core game play to make the 3rd party projects, that individuals have taken on themselves.

APIs are very important to many games these days :)
The advent of "connectability" has meant many gamers have Tablets/Phones/Multi Screens/Hardware that they want to use with their Game.

I may be waaay off base, but wouldn't these changes already be documented by FD?

C'mon, it's like exposing 6 or 7 variables which would be no use to anyone else. And it keeps FD at the front of the technology race. How many purchased the game because the early VR adoption?

At the op, you need a high profile cmdr to champion the cause. Any you tubers playing with VR?

Anyways op, have rep.

Yeah, serious, because in the video those servos are really going. They look industrial grade, and that's not cheap.

I wonder if the changing memory locations are done intentionally to stop people writing autopilot cheats.

If you can read from the memory relliably, you can write to the memory. Unless, FD had fixed locations for read only data for stuff like this, so changing those locations wouldn't cause any changes to the game itself.

Not sure, just musing.

But who would want to cheat in this game? :p

OP that is a fantastic rig .... +1 as a feeble but approving contribution for your efforts. Alas, I find myself getting sick watching my screen with the SRV on some terrains ..... a realism which I am not keen on enriching ! But must be a great feeling while flying, and landing .... etc.

For an answer to that, look up how the producers of EvE Online have embraced 3rd party developers and the tools they have produced to supplement and enhance the game playing experience. They literally fall over themselves now to provide 3rd party developers an API that we Elite: Dangerous 3rd party developers can only dream of.

Oh to save you some time, you should watch this as an example of just how much time and resources CCP give to 3rd party developers...

Hi Commander,
£10k -hah!
I build this setup for less than £250. I've had over 100hrs in it and it has 20 degrees of movement pitch and roll (enough to smack your head on the head rest if you crash) or spill tea over yourself. If I increase the angle then a seatbelt would be needed. I do have an emergency stop button tho (red button in background in the picture).

That's so awesome!

Pretty sure they are doing this to make it more difficult to maintain cheats/hacks. I absolutely support your request for an official API, it's an awesome setup. I have to ask though: Did you watch Burn After Reading?

Yup.

API naooow!

I want full instruments fed to my second screen. Just like I can in a swathe of flight simulators.

Kudos OP.

I think you will have to wait for Frontier to release an official development framework for the Cobra engine, I can't see that happening anytime soon (would be great if it happened though). I fear a hex editor is your best friend for the time being.
