Why are Both RES and Combat Zones for Fighting? Where Are Miners to Go?

Miners have an entire ring system to go to!!

Fly toward a ring and slow down to your slowest speed once up very close. You can drop into a ring at absolutely any location! Just fly right at it, and your ship will drop out.
I will say it again, npc pirates can and will spawn in any ring where a player is present they are not confined to RES. RES as focal points simply increase the level of npc activity, activity away from RES is linked to the mineral availability and the level of player activity in the area.

You could always mine outside of colonized space, so nobody will ever bother you.

Numerous times I have flown in random rings with my nephew and niece in tow often we were not even mining, we used the rings to practice combat and flight with FA OFF, and we have had to deal with the occasional spawn. The frequency of such spawns is logical, high pop more chance, however, from my observations there is always a slim chance of a random npc spawn and I assume the presence of more than one player had an impact of the frequency.

Dont mine in a res site. You can mine anywhere in the ring, just drop out somewhere else. Res sites are just there to appease the instant action credit grinders not miners. Thats why the fury over the res spawns and credits they offered.

I'm hoping they add COMETS soon.

Imagine going in supercruise and a bringt comet tail is crossing the system and you basically go whale hunting by chasing it down and then go in close to hunt for rare minerals in it.

whilst i may have missed it, I do not think anyone has said NO pirates will spawn, but it is a fact that they spawn far FAR less outside of RES sights, so if OP wants a quite life that is how to start. as you say, there is always some risk but it is risk management.

so much so infact i am thinking of going back to one.

with my turreted python i can almost double my profits without really doing much whilst i am mining ;)
