Add a number to it.
N.B. You can also separate names using more than one space if needed.

This is what es me off about the implementation of the current ship-naming of today. I'm sick of seeing "U.S.S. Enterprise", "Millennium Falcon", "Serenity" and other already established sci-fi ship names in abhorrent numbers that it sickens me.
Identification vs nickname. yah it's workable
discoveries == "show_as" [nickname] or [ID]
ID : Misty_o7
Nickname : Micha
everything tagged == ID but displays the meta info from last save == "Micha"
or you can have it use the ID
or set your nickname == Misty_o7
.‘Anti-immersive’ doesn’t make for a good reason to not make CMDR names unique. It would be incredibly easy for someone to shame or mimic a well known CMDR by simply changing their name to match their target in question. Every career choice involving multiplayer would encounter problems:
Explorers: first discovered copycats
Powerplay/BGS: False flag attacks made easier for instigating trouble between factions/players
Assorted random PvP encounters: A copycat name could perform terribly, unintentionally or otherwise, and end up making a legitimately talented player look bad through lousy flying or actions not normally associated with the CMDR name in question.
Unique names are a necessity in multiplayer, they aren’t going anywhere because of ‘IMMERSION’
Since the OP founded their argument in immersion, how does your position address that particular?
Are you -really- saying it's easier to "steal" someone's accomplishment by being called Micha [2345] instead of Micha_2345?
So you can't think of anything original, then?
I don't see why anybody would like to be named ....2456 as it would be just a random number, not orriginal at all.
I wonder what they're passwords look like, something like "12345abc" i guess.
Indeed Kari, some people don't know what that word means...
Nope to all of the above past my OP. Not good enough. You know how many cities there are named Portland? You know how many Martin Luther King Jr streets there are?
There are celebrities that have the same first name as me. Some of them are awful, either at what they do or just as people--not an exclusive or either. That has zero effect on me going about my day. Just because I share a name with someone doesn't make me culpable for their actions, nor does it make their actions relevant to me doing what I intend to do. It is as if they are completely different people regardless of their having the same name as me. But maybe I'm unique in that and everyone named Bob is secretly seething every time another Bob does something dumb, and they are being preyed on by other people changing their name to Bob just to do stupid things to upset some other pre-existing Bob.
I've never been in the game. I never will be until names are not required to be unique.
I've returned my game, explained why, what happens beyond this, I no longer care unless they permit me to have my name regardless of some other person having it.
I'll be using this same measure to judge all MMO's in the future.
Good parents would have called you "Rhubarb Sock Squanderer"
