Why are my headlights so dim?

Normally I do my exploring in my Dolphin, which has very bright headlights that do an amazing job at illuminating things. Today I stumbled across an INRA base in my Vulture on the dark side of a moon, and to my surprise the headlights are incredibly dim - much more dim than my SRV lights. In fact, you'll see in the screenshot that the tiny lights illuminating my utility hardpoints are brighter than my headlights!

So is this a new bug, or is the Vulture cursed with rubbish headlights?

BTW, my Vulture is landed on the ground!

Thought they were about the same for all ships, guess I was wrong... I posted a few pictures taken from my Krait which was able to illuminate roids from 900 meters.

Picture I'm seeing here locks pretty dim indeed :(
A Dolphin is a small pad ship too right?

They vary considerably from ship to ship. Some are significantly worse than the SRV.

Vulture and FDL have very poor lamps.

Huh. Not that I doubt you, if anything you've got me curious enough to try this myself. I'll jump in my Dolphin quick and come to this same place and see how it does in comparison. If this really is the way Vulture headlights are meant to be, well that just seems silly.

Generally all the headlights in the game are way too dim for 34th century spaceships. I own torches that are brighter.

Or maybe it's just their feeble range. Some dozen meters in front of the ship the light just seems to break off. Must be all that space dust.

This is why even headlights should stay in school.
I also find it strange how dim some of the headlights are. Feels like there should at least be a full beam on some ships like the SRV.

I think it is a graphics shortcoming. They still cannot do multiple light sources from stars and I think the headlights are a problem for them as well.

Dolphin is fitted with xenon bulbs? 🤷‍♂️ is why it gets so hot maybe?

or maybe that headlight icon in the Hud is sapping all the power? who knows

I just confirmed this for myself. Wow!

Here are some shots from with my Dolphin. It looks like I'll keep using it as my primary exploration ship, even for these short in-Bubble hops!

Do not know if you are aware, but the headlights on the SRV have a dip setting and a full beam setting.

I not sure if this is a new thing, or something I had just never noticed previously.

I only found out the other day.
