Why are there so many star systems in the Elite: Dangerous galaxy?

Everything I've read said that there are 100 billion star systems and 100 billion total planets that make up the Milky Way. That is significantly fewer stars than the 400 billion star systems in Elite: Dangerous. Why are there so many star systems in Elite: Dangerous?

100 billion is only a lower estimate, the actual number is unknown. 400 billion is within the right range.

It is assumed/believed that there are a large number of low mass and output stars that have not been accounted for, putting the actual total around 200-400bn. There are certainly more planetary bodies in the Elite Galaxy than the real one though. My gut instinct based on the number of systems I see and how many planets they have in Elite, I'd say the average must be around 5, so that's 2 trillion planetary bodies in Elite.

We don't know exact number of stars in our galaxy. We can only see our local star cluster. So it really depends how you come up with your estimate and does observational data supports your theory's math.

In case of ED no one really knows how much star systems are there. But FD have based their Star Forge tool in scientific data and most vetted theories. Major pitch is that there's something in star and planet formation that makes them frequently a couple.

Also most recent discoveries put number of star systems even beyond ED numbers.

dunno,
quick check on wikipedia says:
The Milky Way is estimated to contain 100–400 billion stars. There are probably at least 100 billion planets in the Milky Way

i doubt any source would say there is a "total" amount of planets... only estimations
