Why call it hotspots?

So been to a "hotspot" now for Platinum, spent 100 prospector limpets and not a single astroid had a slight trace of "platinum" yet its called a "Platinum hotspot"..

Now, always when going to a hotspot for a sepcific resource, i never find that resource i am looking for..What is wrong? I mean, i am unlucky, but 100 probes and no roid having what the spot says it should have?

Jumped out and in again, apperently i must have been on the border to other ring, since it spawned other rocks now. Wierd. Totally spend this time for nothing.

Same happens to me when I go core mining. I always end up with something other than what the hotspot says. I just mine whatever cores are there.

Either a bug or you simply are not actually in the hotspot. I can't recollect the system name where I mine platinum, but it's a popular double-hotspot on a gas giant ring in the bubble. Lot of carriers there. At least two-thirds of the rocks contain platinum, most in the 20-40% range with occasional 50 and 60+. Also plenty of surface and subsurface deposits, but honestly I ignore them unless they're on a rock I'm also surface mining because surface mining is faster for me. I'm not as fast as the YouTube guys, but I can usually get 192 units in cargo and another 6 in the refinery in about 90 minutes from takeoff to landing at a nearby good (but seldom "best") sell location. I value my time more than an extra 2,500 credits per unit!

The only trouble I have is one that has plagued ED for a long time, but that seems worse than ever for me these days. The yellow-orange hotspots revealed by the DSS never show up any more. It used to be that dropping into regular space and re-entering supercruise would reveal them if they weren't showing, and in extreme cases a log to main menu would always fix it. None of that works anymore for me. On rare occasion the hotspots will flash for a quarter-second when I re-enter supercruise, but immediately disappear. It's not a huge crisis because the hotspots still show up in Nav panel and with markers on the HUD, but I do miss being able to see the EXACT location of most significant overlap between adjacent hotspots.

As has been said before Metallic rings are where you can find laser mining platinum rocks, metal rich rings will almost only give out platinum cores in hotspots. Might want to check what the ring is since I know I feel for that mistake.

As for the hotspots not always having much in the way of what you want in them eg.Void Opal Hotspot having a marked lack of VOs, well its been a thing for a while, FDev tried some fixes but many more bugs came about from their efforts so they seem to have left it at the current "Not Really A Hotspot" hotspots. Core hotspots seem more affected than laser mining ones so there is that.:sneaky:

I really need some platinum as well. Now that I've run out, I can't build any more ion thrusters!

Well, the issue here was that the hotspot is in a mettalic ring, the small first one, but when i entered, it apperently entered metal ring instead, so when i jumped out and in again, i was in the right "area" so to say.

Must been a glitch or something miscalculated when dropping from supercruise making me end up in other ring instead

Ah, yeah must be some weird computations going on then, still good hunting dood!
