comparing this with WoW or EvE is a bit far fetched
both games require you to level up something to use the best equip in the game.
in elite the only thing you need is ingame money to buy the best allrounder ship and outfit it (Anaconda),
and after that, you need relatively few materials to unlock the engineers.
now, allow direct trade of currency and materials and you can "level up" a twink or a friend from zero to "the game has no content for me" in a few hours (unlocking some of the engineers would still take some time)
add those countless credit faucets that takes Frontier MONTH to disable, and you got an even more BORING game for those relying on buying themselfs into games, and an even more unattractive game for those who want to play a multiplayer game for the possible achievements (eg. devalued elite ranks)
