Why can't players trade items and money?

comparing this with WoW or EvE is a bit far fetched

both games require you to level up something to use the best equip in the game.

in elite the only thing you need is ingame money to buy the best allrounder ship and outfit it (Anaconda),
and after that, you need relatively few materials to unlock the engineers.

now, allow direct trade of currency and materials and you can "level up" a twink or a friend from zero to "the game has no content for me" in a few hours (unlocking some of the engineers would still take some time)

add those countless credit faucets that takes Frontier MONTH to disable, and you got an even more BORING game for those relying on buying themselfs into games, and an even more unattractive game for those who want to play a multiplayer game for the possible achievements (eg. devalued elite ranks)

The problem with allowing players to trade/sell stuff is that it opens up alot of unwanted activities. Like gold sellers.
Even if you impolement fixed prices in the market, you could never control activities outside the game, involvning real money.

So what can you sell? could I sell my modified FSD? If that is the case, what would happen to it if was modified by cheating? Like the one that has caused alot such modified modules lost their modification for cheating... So if I used a cheat to modify modules, then I sold them to other players. and then FDEV decides to clamp down on this, and remove the modifications... should this also happen to players now who bought cheated modules? In essence punish "honest" players... Now FDEV are in a huge predicament, they are damned if they do and if don't.
Or replace that modified FSD module, to anything that could be gained by using any exploit that today could punish player (like the engineering exploit, or the sell Robiga slaveas back to the station for credit profit), and then you trade/sell the ill gotten gains to another account.... So all cheaters would have access to accounts where they use the cheats on, and then trade with their "legit" accounts.... it would be a real mess and noone would be happy....

So as much as I would love to be able to trade with my friends, I have seen to much in other games to show that it is very hard to avoid exploit of these kind of functions. And we still have several ingame functions that has flaws in their design that at the moment is not a big priority, but with ability to trade/sell, stuff then these flaws become very important to fix ASAP.

Mainly gold farming.

But I've suggested ways you could send credits to another player, while making it very very ineffective to try and gold sell from it. It's a very old post, might take time to find it.

The transfer of ships and modules could be used to get around PowerPlay, military rank, and Engineering too.

We can transfer cargo. It's just slow. Lol
