Time is the only true commodity an individual truly has. A very limited commodity for most people with jobs.
Regardless of your employment status, the average life expectancy is around ~80 years for the western world (give or take a few depending on the country), making time one of the most limited and precious commodities in the world.
My entire argument has revolved around the fact that inflicting loss on the victim is one of the main motivators for griefers.
Maybe this is my migrane talking, but every time I click on this thread I comeback to the thought of...
How obliviously self-righteous must someone be to assume they've never done anything someone else may legitimately want them dead for?
Personally, I intend to live forever, or die trying.
Regardless, I do agree that time is valuable, which is why I prefer to spend as much as possible on my entertainment, and squander as little as possible of it on detestable activities like labor (which I largely consider beneath me).
Inflicting loss on one's opponent is the core goal of most organic combat and violence in general. Without the ability to inflict loss, violence is without utility.
Indeed, the relative lack of consequence in ED is one of the reasons I rarely have my CMDR go looking for trouble. He blows people up and not only do they never actually die, they usually get all of their stuff back!
I'd be a more aggressive PvPer if and when we ever get an ironman mode (and the requisite rules enforcement to make it work).
