Why do you explore????

For me it is to go "Where No One has Gone Before"

Pretty much this, sums it up very well for me, too. :D
But I'd also like the line "to seek out new life and new civilizations" and it would be cool, if they'd not all be just plain hostile. Well, maybe some future expansion will cover something like this. :)

I explore the sh*t out of other games. If there's a fork in the road i go one way, check out every hidden corner, then backtrack, and go the other way. This gets annoying very fast, but my gaming OCD won't let me do it any other way :D

However, in this game, there's no possible way for me to explore everything, so I don't even try...

....it feels.....liberating.

on another note, I could advice new players to throw themselves into exploring for the simple reason that, with a small ship like the Cobra or the Diamond Back, equipped with a detailed surface scanner (1.5 million CR, still three time more expensive probably than the ship itself will be fully kitted) you can make the 50 million you need to jump over the monetary gap that exist between the small ships, and the next generation of ships starting with T7 or Python.
While ASP stands in the middle somewhere, a player soon realize that there is a lot of grinding at this stage between the small ships and the medium ones...
Perhaps this might change with the "ships - 1.5" patch that will come later this year, but at this stage, grinding for grinding... exploration is a good way to work in peace at this monetary gap...

my two cent

The mistery. Seen and learning about stars, planets, moons. My most valuable discoveries hasn't been the best paid ones in the game but those that tapped into my imagination about what's really out there and how wild can become.

Finding an ELP has taught me a lot about perspective of our own Earth and the importance to care for it: they might be millions out there but they aren't precisely around the corner.

And on the greater view, makes me wonder with amazement about the sheer, impossible size of it all, God's creation and what all of that means in our otherwise minuscle existence.

A few reasons. One I like to go somewhere no-one has been before, second it's relaxing and finally sometimes I like to be alone!

Because after work I need something low-impact repetitive yet score-increasing to do to empty my mind.
It's like fishing: I just sit there and every now and again I reel in something interesting.

My mate goes fishing IE sat on a chair near a pond in the rain. I dislike fishing, but I get what he gets from exploring. I have not played for a while but just noticed my detailed scan times are now 16 secs they all used to be 30ish when did that happen

I first explored because it was something I hadn't done before.

I then explored because it involved seeing cool stuff.

Then I explored because I could do & see stuff that few others had done & seen.

Finally, I explored because I could do & see stuff no one else had done & seen.

Then I stopped exploring because there's nothing really left to do or see that others haven't already done or seen.

I want to explore this game. I've done a fair bit of open trading and some combat. Hadn't tried exploration until a month ago or so. That's why I first did it. Now I do it because it is surprisingly fulfilling. Also, getting that first tag is alluring.

I enjoy the solitude and the fact that I must survive on my own. If I make a fatal mistake, help is NOT right around the corner. The sheer mountain that is self-reliability... I have to face it. Plus I just love seeing what's out there!

It is a big galaxy, maybe something will popup?

Initially, to try out exploring, go where noone has gone before. Then, to see the wonderous things in the galaxy; Nebulaes, real life stars and systems. I became a tourist. Then I started to go places fast, so I became a tourist racer, then a racer. And as of late, a fuel rat... so my "why" has evolved a bit over the time.

But now, it's for the rank. I want my final rank and I'm so close I can smell it, and yes, it's a grind.
