Why do you fight?

Because even though I hope for peace once more between The Alliance and the Federation -

Sometimes you just have to give it a shot.

Is there anything to gain from pvp other than salt, tears, and laughs?

Not really. But there's nothing to gain from trading except a bigger toy, and nothing to gain from exploring except another screenshot.

PVP is really the only part of the game in which you have to put your skills up against another thinking, calculating, skilled human player. I've beaten all of Braben's NPCs, thousands of times - and it's never a rush of adrenaline anymore. For that, you need a human opponent.

it's important that my opponents have fun, too.

It's a shame that some groups made the mistake of purging (victim) opponents from OPEN play by instigating turkey shoots, and seal clubbing roams against folks that have no chance of fighting back.

What it did is make OPEN a no go zone for these people, and ofc reputation goes like wildfire, so people who don't even understand OPEN will default to solo or group.

I heartily agree with that it's important that your opponents also have fun, shame the philosophy was not apparent from the start.

I started with Solo as default in the beginning :p That changed when I ran out of fuel and had to switch to Open to get rescued by the rats :D

So yes, that Solo by default mindset has sadly spread over large parts of the community who don't see/don't want to see that Open isn't the ruthless, evil place they claim it is :)

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
For my RIGHT.... to paaarrrrtyyyy!!

Actually, no... Since I don't PvP much I don't really have a dog in this, er, 'fight'. I suppose for some it's the challenge of engaging with a real person. For others its surely the salt/tears/lulz.

What I really want to see in the game are more reasons to work together, though, not fight. Multi-crew will hopefully address this.

I do pvp from time to time cause it's fun, also you encounter people at cg and make new friends, pvp is a way of socializing

Well some people can't lose so they hide in solo, I only play open despite I'm not a top pvper, I mainly do pve and have a lot of fun encountering other commanders and chat.

I fight because it's worth my while.

Start it, I'll finish it if I can, either watching the kablooey or the hyperspace sequence.

If there's enough money on the pilot's head that I think it's worth the risk to take him on, let's dance.

Facing an honorable opponent is fun.

As soon as they start typing txt-speak immaturities in chat, not so much.
