Why Do You Own a Fleet Carrier?

My FC is for my own Roleplaying purposes mainly.
I pretend being part of a clan that owns that FC, therefore according to my own rules I'm not a single owner, but just one of the clan - one that happens to do a job of a FC captain. I put almost all of my money into FC account, leaving myself only bare minimum. All the ships parked there are also not mine, according to my own lore, but clan property (except one, that I consider owned by my main character). Among other things it helps to explain why I'm treated just like everybody else by carrier traffic control.
I have different holo-me's for different roles, so I use one for my main activities, another for mining for example and different one when I feel like doing something dirty like pirating (rarely used these days), so that I might roleplay as anyone I want within one account. They all are part of the clan and live on the carrier.
My FC hold is filled to the brim with Tritium (ready for when clan decides to go into the dark never to return) and small amounts of various commodities that I felt important to have on board (also just for roleplaying purposes) like some medicines, food, survival equipment (including coffe, liquor and narcotics) and also some more or less exotic animals like giant verrix or building fabricators if our clan decides to start colony on some planet.
I also deposit all but the bare minimum to the FC. I feel this keeps me focused on earning thus the activities that go along with it. When I see insane number in my commander net worth it dilutes the process, so stay broke and hungry.

all ready to much carriers in game causing instancing prob ect, this cmdr has 3 lol

lol , game share and still one person with 3 accounts and carriers. carriers are way to cheap imo.
3 carriers, 1 of which is an exploration alt so doesn't come into the Bubble. The other 2 usually stay in uninhabited systems in the Bubble if I'm not actively using them at the time.
I challenge you to identify one instancing problem any of my carriers have caused.
The usual problems cited tend to be from cmdrs based at Shinrarta trying to park their carrier near Shinrarta complaining about other cmdrs based at Shinrarta parking their carriers near Shinrarta...

For My Collection and for my fleet.
Carrier 1's cargo :-

Carrier 2's cargo :-

I was reading this thread and weren't going to reply but just a few seconds ago..................

Sorry no screenshots, but as I returned to FC for more Gold, it darn well started shooting at an NPC (pirate or opposing faction?)
What a sight!!!! it is worth it for this alone!!!!
IIRC Capital Ships used to join in Thargoid war zones and you could be protected/helped by these in the early days of the war. I don't think this happens any longer (correct me if I am wrong, as I don't do Control or Alerts - waiting for Invasions to return)

I am 1 jump away from Laedla in Erivia and is happening probably as Laedla is now in War state.

It just happened again as I am writing this, the system police - which patrol your FC in any system except Anarchy - started attacking a ship and my dear old FC joined in - it didn't stand a chance!
Just don't mistakenly hit your carrier with a mistaken shot, if you join in the fight, as you will probably end up in a prison cell far away.
Even if I scan wakes within 7.5km of it, even I, as the Captain, get the 'hardpoint warning' from ATC.

My fleet carrier serves as the mobile fight ops base, obviously. It has about 10K tons of Tritium since I don't go all over the galaxy with it yet. I have about 20 ships on board. It has all of the functions I can fit. The weekly upkeep is about 27m Cr. It has a buffer of 28 years of upkeep. Obviously upkeep isn't an issue, nor is having enough Cr to do anything. For me, it feels more like I have a presence in the system other than being a visitor if my FC is there in the navigation panel.

What do you do with yours? Short of "anything I want" and the obvious role of storing ships, did you have a more specific activity in mind when you purchased a fleet carrier than having a mobile base of flight operations? I know some do some buying and selling, some do some exploring, some do some other things. What is your current FC activity and plans??
Mine has enabled me finally to get out to Colonia and do exploration out in the black.

It is equipped for those purposes so only has UC, RO, RR and VG equipped which keeps costs down to about 14.7 when not jumping.

Since I purchased Odyssey a couple days ago, I will now consider doing some exobiology stuff and outfitting a ship or two for that.
It can be addictive...

What is RR?

Having a carrier is like having your own personal space station, that moves. You can rest, repair, rearm, resupply, keep your ships, mods, cargo, all your 'Stuff' on board, you can turn in your combat bonds, exploration and trade vouchers, albeit paying a premium for the convenience but still. You can buy and sell commodities, salvage, on foot materials. You can stock and sell ships, modules.

While not perfect, and there are a few missing features that would greatly improve them, carriers are pretty good in their current form, now they can be made amazing with some tweaks here and there. But still, I wouldnt want to go back to being without one. My carrier IS my home now. I live off it in the same way people before had a "Home Station", now the carrier is that. And you get to name it, and customize it to an extent.

People have a sense of ownership, hence why there are so many.

In terms of gameplay, they trim alot of the redundant flying you will catch yourself doing. Imagine jumping your carrier to the orbit of the same planet that has the CZ you want to fight in, getting back into the fight is literally only a few seconds away, vs minutes. Or you want to do a HUGE trade run, but instead of jumping the same route 10+ times, you make short hops with your unshielded Type 9, load up the carrier and jump your cargo in a single jump, or jump it FARTHER to another market that you wouldnt have done in the first place because it's too far for your type 9. then you unload, sell and make a bunch of credits in a single hop. Explorers can park their carrier centrally in a region they are planning to chart and explore, knowing the drop off for your map info is always a few jumps away.

I've noticed that I often think of the universe no longer in how far X is to Y. I plot my activity from a distance from my carrier and decide if I want to move it, or just keep it there. Having a carrier allows you to comfortably create a "center of the universe" that belongs to you and thus have control over. And there it gives you some sense of confidence in that when you go to sleep at night, you know your feet are planted on floor rather than hanging out in the black, if that makes sense.

Having a carrier vs not, is the same as doing a road trip in an RV vs a Car. You can live out of an RV, and depending on the model, pretty dang comfortably too, or you can try to live out of your car, which can be done but only if you absolutely have to but is generally the massively inferior experience.

When I saw the Floyd at Earl's Court in 1994, they had rare purple and yellow lasers which they'd reportedly borrowed from a military project!
Sadly I never saw them live. The closest I came to it was watching the live broadcast of their 1989 Venice appearance. Which was quite a spectacle even just on telly.
