why does the mission board take so long to load?

Very frustrating. I have fibre at 250gb 250Mb (oops) and great ping times and still takes at least 30 seconds if not more. Ok, that doesn't sound that long when you read it but staring at a spinning circle it seems very long! What is the reason for it?

This has been and "On again, Off again" problem with the mission servers for years. It was working pretty well up until recently.

Might have something to do with all the other problems everyone is seeing at the moment, like bogus mission rewards and other bizarre behavior.

Yeah ok its busy, but I mean, I don't get why loading a bunch of text is that taxing. And it really gets old fast when running missions (and not rank grinding, I am just trading etc.)

As far as I'm aware, you'll only get the spinning circle (for that long) when the board is retrieving a fresh instance of missions.

I imagine they made it that way as an In-game "gathering new information" type deal (it's gathering data from other nearby spacestations/systems etc, and even with future data speeds travelling faster, data packages are larger, LS/LY of travel, blahblah), but it's also a way to prevent their servers getting bogged down with instant refreshes by thousands of different players at the same time (akin to a DDOS).

That's the way I see it. The board isn't you accessing their data, it's them accessing their data.

Also I love the fact you've got faster Internet speeds than NASA. :p

Flip the boards and stack them up on saturday mornings...means ye wont need the boards at all rest of the day or even the rest of the weekend...problem solved and lots of time saved ^

Has nothing to do with it. Everyone in all modes hit the same server for missions. The more people querying the mission lists, the slower it gets.

Solo tends to be faster than Open when it is having "issues". The missions are interchangeable so you can pick up a collection in Solo and switch to Open to complete them, or vice versa. You can also do this to generate faster refreshes of the mission list itself. (Board Flipping)

It's been slow (for me) since 3.0 dropped, so perhaps it's something to do with the introduction of wing missions. And it's consistently and noticeably slower than pre-patch, so not likely to be network related. The one time it was quick was when I docked at a station in lockdown, to hand a mission in, but there were no missions to display. Board opened up instantly.

How do you ping it please? When I try from command prompt it times out. I assume they have pinging blocked! Got the address from my currently logged in session.

You cannot ping AWS servers, they don't (seem to) allow it. However, there is a utility that allows you to measure your latency to them. The server(s) that you are looking at are the ones in Dublin.

That said, with respect to sleutelbos, I don't think it has much of an impact on performance. I had a long support issue regarding poor game performance (very long instance loading times) that we suspected might have been network related (it wasn't), and was told by support, who were told by the devs, that my latency which is always in the high 100's ms was not something that would impact game performance.

Thanks for this, I get:

US-East (Virginia) 85 ms
US East (Ohio) 108 ms
US-West (California) 155 ms
US-West (Oregon) 145 ms
Canada (Central) 113 ms
Europe (Ireland) 213 ms

Not sure if good or not!

It's fine. Mine (I'm in California) is 186 ms. I'd have to trawl back through my old support tickets to see what it was when I was having my game issues, but I know that I thought it was very high, but was told it was well within acceptable levels for the game.

I'm guessing that the introduction of wing missions has added extra work for the mission server in having to select an appropriate (random) mix of wing / solo missions to display.

Edit: Although as the poster above says, perhaps in jest, it might well be that generating the different potential rewards has also caused a slowdown.

Thanks. Ah well. Will grin and bear it!
