Why FD doesn't release information sooner

What is the name of this forum ?

Dangerous Discussion.

People should dicuss things.
In discussions people say things are bad and people say things are good.
I agree to get too emotional and threaten to quit is not a good thing.
But this is a discussion forum.
People can and should say if they think something is bad.

I don't know..... I'm thinking that FD would rather want to answer negative criticism, than not needing to answer anyone at all. It just proves that the community is alive.

If FDEV would have hinted at this mechanic (a weapon that can be used both as a weapon as well as a wing heal mechanic) before they had started working on it, the community might have given its feedback in a more civilized manner. Right now we know it's in the pipeline, it's 3 weeks before Beta and no matter what we say or do it's going to be in the game. I can understand the frustration of folks who play this game for the atmosphere, which goes down the drain when this stuff is being added without notice.

Sounds like nonsense to me, especially when the core game with its missions and story missing needs fixing.

If you read the post that accompanied the picture of the new beam weapon, you might have noticed that not only 2.1 engineers is coming, but also 1.6 for all Elite players, which overhauls the mission system from the ground up. So I would say it is safe to assume they are fixing the missions.

Also.. what story? Last I checked there is no personal storyline, just the developments of the galaxy that come from Galnet articles and player input.

Why frontier doesn't release all information now?? Simple because its better for them. By dropping small amount of information they can keep players interested for longer time. If they told us everything today we would moan about it for couple days and move on to next solo vs open mkx and pvp vs pve m6 threads. This way they can keep us busy for 3 weeks, by releasing small amount of info at time. Also if they give us all info on one go we will jump on one or two thing/weapon/chance and forgot rest of them. By releasing one thing at time they can listen to what community and players say about it.

And there is nothing to gain by releasing everything now. They release some to keep us interested but keep most stuff until beta release so players can test things and see how stuff works before picking side. Like some people already hate shield recharge lasers but haven't heard anything about them other than that those exist.

Any other publisher/developer do same thing with their games. Its to hype up players and rise awareness of it before update/game release.

Totally agree. Sadly there's no way to stop stupidity.

I'd personally prefer a hidden "news" section where longer term news is given to "trusted" people selected by the moderation team and/or dev team. People that have been on the forums a long time, or were in DDF or are constructive/helpful.... Basically what I'm saying is build a closed/hidden DDF again. I mean there's the player groups one. No reason not to have a DDF one really, anyone that leaks news to the main forums gets booted, probably a few other rules to make it work out.

All others have to either put the time in to contribute positively to the community or be "vouched for" and get recognised. If they are unwilling to be a positive force then they have to deal with the usual news release schedule. Note: Disagreeing but offering reasoning and viabele alternate suggestions is very positive imo, this shouldn't just be a gushing "we love everything" forums.

I like your idea I really do but I don't get to spend a lot of time on the forums, even though I love reading loads of posts, I love the way elite is going and always will I think nothing could make me hate this game. All the way from the lore of the galaxy to the occasional bug :p this game is fantastic!

my point is I would really hate to be segregated just because I don't post an awful lot, tbh one of the reasons I don't post to much is because of neh'sayers, so maybe if I got into this secret forum I would enjoy being around people who love the game like myself, it's just the initial getting spotted.

maybe as an alternative invite everyone to it and as people complain boot them out?

I agree. This is why I will wait until the current season is over before buying it. I'd like to know what I'm getting for 50 euros..

the thing issnt about frontier releasing info, its about a few that are way to negative here on the forum and that ruins the mood for allot of people.
some are just here to be negative, and if you ask me, being negative without good arguments should get you banned from the forum because it contaminated the rest of community.

They're just expressing their opinions. No one should be banned for that. If you get dragged down by the pessimists it only means you're buying their arguments.

Ive posted this before but I'll go back to I think it was 1.1 or 1.2
.
Up to then I'd been pretty much in awe of the game and really enjoying it, then came top post beta release notes and whats this Fuel prices have changed rather than cost 10's or even 100's of thousands my Python could be refuelled for 100's of credits. The damage I received was going to be MUCH cheaper to repair and even worse the vulture which in Beta had proved to be a mean machine was going to HALF in expected price
.
I basically went ape on the forums about how it was running game play - the only way to make money before in a big ship was have big shields and fuel scoop otherwise the damage and fuel costs wiped out any profit. The vulture was going to become a mean machine that everyone would fly and what was they point anymore
.
How long did it take to adapt? About 3 days I would say
.
I've also found that the best way to learn about new features is to clear save, there was a few complaints about Horizons. I thought as a new Cmdr it was ace - I can seenow as a experienced commander why it holds less appeal
.
I learnt then that I know nothing about the design of elite but I know lots about how to play it so now I prefer to keep quiet and go with it as it stays brilliant if I don't like something (Powerplay - arena) well I know I don't actually need to use it so why worry?

There was this delightful effort elsewhere.

"I am delighted to announce The Engineers (Elite Dangerous 2.1) will be available to players with beta access in the week ending 8th May."

For the *bleeping*' love of...even when it comes to a simple date on a calendar they cannot give a straight *bleeping* answer.
How about "Hey guys, we're dropping this *bleep* on the 9th of May at 0001hrs GMT."

See how simple and detailed that was?

Now you've confused everyone even more because some will think that means the weekend, others will think that means Monday.
I seriously think FDEV is tragically *crude reference* when it comes to actually announcing anything.

I agree, seeing these people actually complain without even knowing how these lasers works is just sad.

Sorry, but that is FD's own fault. They like to throw tiny bits of info our way and then act surprised when we draw our conclusions and discussions from what little we know. They think it is clever marketing, we think it is just drip-feeding. I expect like in previous updates, we won't even have a complete list of all modifications that exist until a few days into the beta when people have compiled it themselves. And I expect for lots of modifications we will have to second-guess whether they are working properly or not, because we have no idea how exactly they are supposed to. Imagine telling a QA engineer "please check if feature XYZ works" without giving them the spec.

No information = bad
Some information = bad
All information = ruins the fun

And here's some more good news, following that approach it will very likely be available far cheaper.
Patience tends to be quite the money saver, especially when it comes to gaming.;)

I honestly don't get it why some are upset about healing lasers...

Nor I in this case, I think they will add an interesting twist to combat in wings and could make an attack by a wing of AI ship's a lot more challenging if they can use it on each other. There is a similar feature in Startrek Online and it made PvP so much more fun and lasting, sadly the AI there are so stupid they hardly used any of their abilities at the right time or in the right way.

Thank-you Weps!

I don't think they are the slightest bit surprised. ;)

Prett sure they think it's clever marketing AND drip-feeding. ;)

We're not QA...we're players. Yes, some will have access to Beta, but we're still not QA. Our job is to play the game so they can see how players react to the update. This will also result in bug reports, but a huge part of Beta is to see how we interact with the new systems and if we find the intuitive and understandable. If they tell us everything then that falls apart.

I don't think that the community should decide what FDEV implements. Only 0.5% of the community is active on this forum. Only 1% of 0,5% discuss the new weapon and only half of them are against it. So we would have 5 forum users who decide how a game for 2 million people gets developed. On the other hand we have 100 people at FDEV who are doing a better job than those 5 guys on the forum.

That doesn't mean there should be no criticism or player feedback. However this should only be taken into account where large parts of the community are in agreement. Liquidating assets on the insurance screen or an apologize mechanic for accidental FF would be such an example.
