Why getting bored with the Alpha makes me excited about Elite Dangerous

The Alpha plays like a demo and is a short version of other titles out there really. Missions, fight this, defeat that. This is your briefing. And to be honest after a week of playing the same eight missions. I'm bored.

Which is exactly why I'm excited about ED. The gameplay /is/ fantastic. But it needs to be part of something bigger, something involving and evolving to really grab my attention. And that's what ED is offering, that's what the game is about. It's why I did play Frontier and First Encounters despite staying harmless (I hated jousting). Upgrading your ship, making money, seeing the universe, telling your own story, not one dictated to you.

Thanks Frontier, the Alpha One (and One Point One) has whetted my appetite and I'm impressed with the graphics and gameplay (much better than Frontier's jousting for my tastes) but I'm looking forward to seeing it fit into the Whole.

Patience, Jeff, patience, the game is made for to years. You waited for so long, appreciate now, what you have in small dose, to avoid the indigestion. As a thirsty in the desert who shall swallow 1 liter of water of a sudden, at the risk of suffocating

:D

Oh I can be patient. I just mean it's the sprawling universe that sets Elite and other sandboxes apart from the scripted mission lot.

I kinda thought many would get bored after the first week, but it is only an Alpha combat test, they will be adding more systems after the new year I suspect (they did say they would "see us in the new year with a bang!")
I'm still itching for a quick shot, but don;t personally know anyone who has pledged alpha :(

I'm not quite done with the combat yet but at the moment I am just enjoying whizzing about in the asteroid belt, enjoying piloting for the sake of it! :)

Seems I'm following Memnoch...I'm really not...don't mind me just floating silent rigged...im not eye balling your ship for salvage not at all....

I've only had the alpha for a day but makes me want more right away...travel...adventure...bounties...booty(loot), whatever the great frontier has to offer...and at the end of the trip...a nice cold Andromeda ale with my brothers Elite...and sisters too.:D

What if we take a step back, and truly examine what it means to only have eight missions? What if we then consider the implications of having only one ship type with which to perform these missions? The irony. A subtle magnificence yet untouched... just beneath the surface... Yes, there it lies, undisturbed...

Now get back out there and kill stuff! ;)

I couldn't afford the Alpha so I envy you lot ;)

However...what you have is such a tiny piece of Elite dangerous when you consider the scale of the whole game....It like a playable screenshot in comparison.

My money says the game is all but complete and they are just testing for reaction to the GFX , Sound and Gameplay ... Its a snippet !!
But if I had the funds I would sign up now.....

The Beta will probably blow your minds :)
