Why have that ! in the comms panel?

I spent ages trying to find what part of the chat that belonged to and because i couldn't find one i did try to ignore it but i did wonder if it was something important. Thanks for clearing it up.

As soon as this idiotic "!" started appearing (post the most recent update), I also stopped getting any messages. I get the verbal "A mission-critical update..." message, but no actual message comes in.

Does anyone know if there's an issue report for the '!' thing described in the OP?

I can see what the problem is. It seems to be alerting us to the presence of messages in hidden comm's tabs. So I have system chat in a separate tab. Every time I jump to a new system the message "entering system xxx" that appears in system chat triggers the '!'. The solution seems simple ... just exclude those grey info messages like "entering system xxx" from being included in the '!' test. We only really need alerting to messages from other players or direct comm's from npcs.

This seems like the sensible way to handle it.

I just figured it was the ship AI getting flirty -- "Is that an exclamation point in your chat or are you just happy to see me?"

You know how, in old-fashioned superhero comic books, everybody's sentences always end in either a question mark or an exclamation mark? Never a full stop! It was originally done because the print quality of the comic pages was so bad, full stops didn't appear on the page! They continued doing it, even after print quality improved, because having every sentence end with an exclamation mark made the comic appear more exciting! Even when what was being said was actually rather bland!

Maybe the zombie exclamation mark is like this! It's there to make sitting in the cockpit seem more exciting! Even when you're just doing an A-B cargo milk run and haven't been interdicted in hours!

Perhaps remove the Enter Channel message. I went there. I entered the system. I know where I'm at and
what channel I'm on. Maybe the good news is that Frontier didn't also add a Left Channel message!
