Why I don't give a damn if I die in this game. Even if it sends me back to the Sidewinder.

It's a game.

There isn't a big scary man behind me, putting a gun to my head and telling me I'll have my brains blown out if I die in the game.

None of it is real. Relax guys. Getting killed in this game is by design. No tin-foil required.

I was doing passenger runs in an Orca the other day, forgot what ship I was in when a NPC FAS interdicted me, submitted and got wasted FAST.

Said, "Oops, not in the Python right now" did my rebuy, cancelled the failed missions and moved on.

You mean you didn't get the guy with a gun with your copy of the game!? Did you order the 'Deluxe Edition'?
You should submit a ticket a see if FD will send you a armed assassin.
I'll admit feeding him is an extra expense but the immersion factor is incredible. Better then VR.

Satirical post. What I'm trying to say is that the fear of a re-buy is unfounded in tangible terms.

But FD do everything in their power to ensure we can only earn credits in a pre-approved manner (missions pay a tenth of a pittance, but passenger missions give out creds like they are having a closing down sale).
Thus it's hard to earn credits if you don't want to be a bus.
Thus a rebuy on a big three ship is many hours of my actual life to repay.
Thus it is founded, in the most tangible terms our brief time as this particular arrangement of atoms has to offer.

If you want to get philosophical about it, anything (with or without "real" value) you have put time into acquiring represents a very real part of your life which you aren't going to get back. If a loss results in you having to spend your leisure time grinding credits in order to continue playing the game the way you want to, that's a real loss in tangible terms.

Obviously it's a game and in-game loss can very well equate to real world gain in terms of enjoyment. But more often than not when people complain about dying it's because they died from a threat they didn't seek out, in a way they had little control over and didn't enjoy.

In my case a rebuy hurts my pride much more than my wallet. I like most of your posts Unikorn and while i kinda understand what your trying to achieve with this post I think your reaching a bit too far or maybe a bit too low.

I admire your effort of trying to keep the the game fresh or engaging for us peons but this seems more of a miss than a hit.

(Rum has maybe helped formed this conclusion but I stand by it)

Enjoy your sidewinder. :p

Getting killed was a lot less daunting when all you lost was playtime since last save.. i've always said ED is too 'iron man' to encourage the kind of playstyles Elite 1, 2 & 3 did best. Risk, envelope-pushing etc. etc.

You mean you don't slash yourself with a kitchen knife and set fire to your legs for immersion??? /shock ;)

Get a cutter. 40 million credit rebuy. Thats 40,000,000 credits. Dont know what youre flying but its about oh 20 30 hours of gametime to make that up. So the really big ships turn you into a penny pincher just bc ive already done load upon load for said cutter and modules. Let me put that into some more perspective. I have 100 million creds in my account. If i jump into open and meet 2 vet players that also have cutters or an engineer glitch freak, and my ship blows up twice. Im basically broke. W 40 hours to get back to where i was.
