Why I like Power Play!

With you all the way, Jeff, right up until that last sentence, you imperialist running dog you ;)

I admit her likeness to her Game of Thrones counterpart is a big part of the reason I threw in with her. In terms of her political naivity, youth and wanting to free all the slaves. Despite the fact 'in-character' I find that last incredibly stupid, but I can see why someone young would want to try it.

I have sworn allegiance, with a power where everything is going well.
Fortification: A day or two, check, done.
The proposals for the expansion seems to be well.
The expansion itself looks to succeed.
Now I have a few days off for CG, Trading, BH or else.
This fits that way. It is good.

i like it because its a prelude to alien war - we now have the way to see an expanding alien colony into our galaxy and a way for all CMDRs to push them back. expect a join military option coming soon with military lasers/alien tech etc

I agree, this will be the best time for the Thargoids to plan their invasion if any. The universe is at strife and on the brink of war, and focused on eachother rather than outward. If I were them I would do the same.

I must admit, there are some things i like about powerplay.
I remember a long time ago (long before powerplay was even mentioned), i stated i wanted a more dangerous galaxy, one where there were systems that were dangerous to pass through, where you had to plan your route more carefully if you wanted to stay safer, where "home" was safe, and Anarchy was bad.
Well in a way powerplay has done that.
I don't take part in the "powers" much, i still do trading mostly, and just deliver stuff if it's on my route, but now i end up in "Hostile" space a lot, i am chased and hounded by other powers a lot, i am always having to run and escape in my T9, (never been close to being caught yet though).
So powerplay has added a bit more tension and excitement to my boring trade runs, and given me a little of what i asked for a long time ago.
I still find it weird though that i can be in a hostile system, and yet the feds and station are green and allied to me.

I think it's great in theory, but it seems almost anti-roleplay to me. Would a real pilot be dealing with this stuff? Does Han Solo look at CC scores? I think this sort of content should be presented through missions, NPCs and other players, not via a sort of abstract strategy board game.

I agree, but I also wonder how you give players a clue that their actions are having an effect without some sort of numerical mechanism?
