Why I need a Clipper

question - why 3 incendiary frags? and why overcharged?

i used to run frag cobras, couriers, FAS and python pve - courier for exampel with 1 incendiary, 1 corrosive, 1 without special (all ammo increased).
i'm pretty sure i can learn something from your build.
Incendiary covers both kinetic and thermal so it strips shields with ease and combined with the corrosive, makes quick work of hull as well.
And overcharged is the most powerful by far. An argument can be made for hi cap but it barely takes any material to synthesize more ammo.
When using multicannons or frags, the most effective and efficient engineering for them is overcharged with incendiary on the big guns with one corrosive on the smaller ones. Other good effects to have is drag and emissive but your big guns should always have incendiary.

Why a Clipper? For me at least, it's because it is the closest thing in the game to this, the real Imperial Courier from FE2.

Here is my take on the Clipper....

It is useless in a very special way..

You can buy faster
You can buy bigger
You can buy tougher.

It has no advantages.

It is quite pretty and very nice to fly.
This is why I love mine.

Oh and no NPC can catch it.

Clipper is actully the Imperial Trader in Elite.
I think the Cutter is closer to that mark. ;) The Clipper is about the same size as the old FE2 Imperial Courier, it was mid sized ship too. The Courier, as it is in this game, came as a shock to me being so small as it was. Don't know what FD were doing that day when they were naming ships. 😵

Now I'm getting nostalgic for FE2, I loved that game!

When the Panther finally makes its pedestrian way to this game I'll be right at the front of the queue!

Anyhow, what is the best way to use the Clipper? As an all purpose ship, like a Python or Krait? I've heard it excels at mining? Is it good at PvP?
If so could anyone suggest good builds?
A gimballed frag Clipper is the best way to fully utilize Clipper combat potential. A melee specialist excellent for causing mayhem in the systems. And if your target manages to survive frag cannon hailstorm just ram him to pieces and watch the debris. Don't bother with npc ship, start hunting cmdrs in barges... I mean Anacondas, they are usually very confident, but rarely live up to make that life saver hi-wake.

There are plenty of good uses for the Clipper. A mining ship. L-pad trader. Some cmdrs fly Clipper explorers. Before I got the Cutter I was doing trade CG's pilotting the Clipper. Some tried to interdict me, but they were unable to catch me and because of the speed Clipper is very good for trading in more dangerous regions of open mode.

And what to do with it. I have just finished the two Salome books about Elite by Drew Wagar. Reclamation and Premonition are both absolutely excellent. Huge respect to Drew for bringing alive the Elite universe, fleshing out the lore and background.

Problem is, our hero Salome is closely linked with her Imperial Clipper. But I've never bought this ship despite having the rank to do so - I was grinding for the Cutter.

And now I need to read more Elite fiction, but the bar has been set incredibly high!
I took one on the Distant Worlds 2 expedition and never once regretted my choice, makes a very good exploration ship if you don't mind a low-50s jump range (with some help from a Guardian FSD booster)
