Engineers Why is Elite Failing (in my opinion)? Negative Feedback Loops - An Analysis

Were you under the impression people are saying this is a bug? Yes, the fact that ranges overlap from two grades away is bull.

Why exactly?

Given that Grade 5 outcomes are already significant in their ceiling limit and their bare minimum is pretty significant as well, the only real thing that I can imagine is being argued is that grade 3 and lower modification ranges should be.... lower? So that they can't overlap with a grade 5 and it's nothing but a definite gain because modifications a few grades lower have had their potential killed.

Buffing grade 5 ranges in the example given, even if it's just boosting the minimum would just make the modification offer a short range of guaranteed 32%+ gain no matter what (to anticipate against any possible secondary effect a lower grade modification might get which would immediately make it "" by your standards), and that would be silly broken.

Of course, making sure that a higher grade is better than a lower grade, and Making an upgrade actually UPgrading is clearly broken, or making sure that dozens hours of grind is worth something.
(/sarcasm off)

Care to address the rest of the post, particularly the part about what specifically is being argued for then? Nerfing lower grades or over buffing Grade 5s on top of what they already are to be a minimum of a 32% improvement no matter the roll just because of grade 3s?

Quit the whiny snipes, lay down something constructive. Both of you and anyone else for that matter.

I could quit the "let's try to reward time investment/skill" club, you could quit the "let's leave it exactly as it is" club.

I won't and never will be.

You forgot to mention Elite has no:

seamless transition from space to planet,
planets with atmosphere you can land on,
planets with weather,
planets with lifeforms that move and react to players
planets that you can interact with (creating caves etc.)
planets with water that you submerge into and explore
planets that don't all look the same.

But Elite does have:

a base game that is empty and lifeless
Powerplay - which is broken no one asked for
CQC - which is empty and no one asked for
Engineers - which RNG and no one asked for
Wings - which is almost impossible to meet up with your friends
AI - after engineers update now broken and over powered

yeah Elite is great, no wonder everyone is clamouring to get it.........oh wait!

I see...
Your list , is very artifical.
You see , the game does not have planets with atmosphere yet , so that means : no weather , no lifeforms , water.
So your only complaints are :
No atmosphere worlds (yet)
No unrealistic out of place terraforming

However every planet in elite is 100% unique , they all have there own highmap and the earth-likes are not even ready yet.

NMS is a terrible looking game , its cartoony casual friendly going to have an easy AI and an end game goal...
The only reason so many are all over it is because it has one gimmik and sticks to it. that and its aimed at the casual market.

As for the AI in elite , its not broken. it used to be , but sins 2.1 they fixed it making it one of the most advanced AIs out there.

Important note about NMS , its small and ulgy. every ship in that game is a copy of a ship from another better game , every planet in NMS is tiny compared to real life planets and NMS has no science nor lore

It's just part of a .1 update not a season in itself and came alongside huge changes

IIRC what they said was making the engineers provide missions to get all the materials would take a long time, not that it was intended that way but they didn't have time.

And because to me this update seems to have misfired. What should have been a long slow process to look forwards to of little upgrades and opportunities here and there has been transformed into a mass-grind to the new level of meta and in the end it's just going to mean newbies will have to avoid all aggressive encounters with other players until they too have done the long grind asap to get to grade 5 on all their parts so they can compete at all.

Currently I can hold my own - by the looks of it in a month's time it'll be terrifying getting attacked by another cmdr not because of skill, but because their ship will be vastly more powerful just because I didn't partake in weeks of misery grinding to do it quickly

PVP pilot skill was killed with RNGneers ,you can be a bad pilot now with the mods and still semi usefull

Ok, if you are going to tell hyperbolic 'porkies' on scales of grandeur I have not seen in a long time, at least keep it believable.

Would 'the most advanced AI's out there' keep flying into asteroids? Would they attempt to hijack your cargo through interdiction when you have no cargo? Would they keep flying into mines by tootling along in a straight line behind the fleeing cargo ship that just somehow keeps dropping those mine things? I could go on and on, but...

Yes, we all know you absolutely love E D, but, occasionally, you just have to be realistic. M'kay?

All ships should be modifiable easily by everyone on the block. This galaxy is too uniform and mundane.. dry and heartless. Add some variety by letting people pimp things out how they want, spend their hard earned mats and credits.

Only make the best of the best available from the engineers.

Problem solved.

If a developer is having difficulty in finding splitting upgrades/penalties in to five grades on a percentage scale, where limits are actually programmed by themselves, they haven't really got a clue. Surely everyone can manage to divide 100 in to five different groups right. Rank 1 = 0-20%. Rank 5 = 80% - 100%.

There you go if you persist long enough you could fully outfit your favourite ship ever to achieve double its abilities.

It is an arms race though, and woe is you if you try to play ED without the season 2 content, as the AI will eventually over power you once you start gaining access to higher difficulty missions.

Why is it okay and acceptable for people to grind away to get the biggest ships that can load out the biggest most powerful weapons and then grind even more to outfit that ship to it's extreme's so it is unbeatable unless essentially countered by someone who did the equal amount of grinding to get the same big bad ship with the same expensive modules, but when the possibility comes up to get lesser ships a little bit more punch and a little bit better through grinding away and doing item hunts it suddenly is unacceptable? The only difference is now those that spent their time grinding one direction don't know for certain they almost absolutely can defeat lesser ships, those lesser ships may have a bit more a bite because someone did grinding laterally for that ship to make it a little better.

It's also funny that the argument is that someone grinds one way is unacceptable because they didn't do it the way some of you think it should be done.

Yes they're bull because that would mean they had a chance of rolling up a high quality mod at level 3 and so doing less of this hideous grinding I hear so much about.

Oh wait...
