Why / is (elite) horizons still doomed to die?

Han Solo was a smuggler though, not a settlement kill'em all gunslinger, over and over again.

I'd have maxed out Rogue rank if they had one. Makes more sense to have that than the "Exobiologist" rank. No Scoundrel rank though.

I just want the two playergroups to be re-united and be able to instance together. That to me is how I'll know Odyssey is finally at it's true 1.0 release version. The planet tech unfortunately all needs to be unified for both parties because of multiplayer syncing, but things like the skybox, lighting, and other minor stuff? If Odyssey is so much of an improvement, then why not just leave those Horizons things as-is, and let Odyssey's improvement be self evident, instead of replacing all of it with Odyssey's skybox and lighting.

Horizons wasn't worth the money either when it was released in 2015. A few years later it's the most awesome thing since Jesus, at least according to the people who always hated it until Odyssey was released. Or something, sorry, I am getting confused.
If it's any consolation, I still hate the FSS and Engineers.
Well actually I just don't particularly care for them, but hate sounds like I'm more emotionally invested in my opinion. :giggle:
Cheers.

Was it ever Frontiers intention to attract FPS players to EDO?
I don't actually know, was responding to
What incentive does FDev have to encourage you to return? They want to attract new customers
Was just trying to imagine what new customers would be attracted to something that is at least 80% an fps where you don't even need to fly a spaceship - in a game that was primarily about flying spaceships.

I neither said nor implied they were hoping to attract a particular demographic nor gave any indication at all that I consider Odyssey a good idea. I broadly agree with your appraisal.

Mine's not too bad.

EDO's release has been a horror story but Dom Corner's interview this week does give a lot of hope (I think) of where the game can go in terms of mysteries and basically an interaction greater than scooping some cargo and scanning a beacon for a text only story chain.

I also haven't yet done much of a study on whether erosion is now part of the story on planet surfaces. Personally I like where the planets are going visually but if erosion is in .. but we can't yet land on planets where water is a thing .. that is going to ice-cream-ify mountain ranges. Water is a much sharper erosion force than wind, especially in tenuous atmospheres and without full weather not surprising can't yet land in the desert of techtonics wiped clean.
Mine can be divided into two camps - those who are still active and playing Odyssey, which is about 70%, and then the ones who I met during the LTD rush last summer who haven't been on in about a year. There's maybe 3-4 who haven't been on since Odyssey launched. (Mind you, I only have a couple of dozen people on the list so far from a massive sample size).

I mean, apart from the thousands upon thousands of people playing it.
I've always chuckled whenever I read the posts that tell us open is 'empty' in Horizons... Yes, some folk have stopped playing, no doubt... But most of my friends are, like me, playing Odyssey (again, a tiny sample, but interesting) 🤷‍♂️

From about 30ish on my list I'd say about 8 are still playing regularly, 2 of those EDH. The daily players are usually the same 3-4, the rest is more intermittent.

Becoming a Han Solo simulator' rather than a Millennium falcon simulator, in a sense.

If that were in any way true, I'd be fully on board with that because that would be great.

Doesn't tally with one of the reasons cited for "no ship interiors" by FDev though - that being a scenario where your ship is under fire, and you don't want to be fighting off attackers and running to your cockpit to take off. Gawd no, that would be boring... also what Han Solo had to do more than once... so, er, yeah...
