Why is Frontierstore Odyssey full price yet Steam is 40% off?

Simple question: why is the Frontierstore (dot) net version of Odyssey full price yet on Steam it is 40% off?

I can't remember* the last time there was sale price offers in the Frontierstore (dot) net Elite Dangerous section yet here again we have Odyssey at 40% discount until 31 May on Steam. There are loads of us who have non-Steam accounts so why doesn't Frontier cut us some slack and give us a sale even now and again?

* I have seen people on the forum mention that there were sale offers but when I have looked on the same day - there were only full price items.

Steam is a store and as it is normal with stores they sometimes put their goods on the shelves on sale regardless of any input of the original producer. This is common practice in most stores I'd say. You can easily see it happen at the supermarket.

Frontier doesn't put the game on its own store on sale very often, even though it is better for them if the games get sold there (no cut for Steam).

So when asked I recommend new players getting the game on Steam.

Because Steam, as a licensed reseller of the game, chose to put it (and many other) games on sale for a limited time?
That’s not how Steam works, the publisher decides whether they want to add their game to a sale event, and the price it’ll be in sale for. Valve might invite them to themed sales, but it’s the publishers decision alone. https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/discounts

This is also why it’s on sale on Epic for the same price right now, despite Epic not being Steam.

I mentioned it here on forums few times: you can link your non-steam ED game with steam, buy odyssey DLC on steam and you will have it available also on your "non-steam" installation.

Wake me up when it's 60-70% off.
It can't be about cost Duck. The current steam price is less than I would spend getting take out for a single meal for my family. I know which one of those two is the better value.

Now the cost of upgrading your gear to properly appreciate it? Well that's another thing... 🤪

You want another donation maybe?
Now now. In the beginning they were donations for a mod. Then, when he got what he wanted, he started referring to them as "gifts" instead, to justify him spending them on a different game and binning off the work he offered to do if people bought him Odyssey.

How he still shows his face around here... man has no shame.

However, my post wasn't very clear in that there are many of us who have MULTIPLE frontier-store accounts. One would need to create multiple steam accounts and link each to a frontier store account etc etc ... So to save the hassle, it would be good if they returned to having the occasional frontierstore sale (they did have them in the past - hence multiple accounts) with the additional advantage of removing the cut that steam extorts earns from purchases.

It's about value, apples-to-apples, games-to-games, DLC to DLC (why everyone compares video games to steak and eggs is beyond me). Of course that's very subjective, because I'm sure you value Odyssey way more than I believe I would, so I would encourage you to buy it at full price. I paid over full price for my first copy of Horizons on PS4 - the "Gold Sidewinder" preorder, because I anticipated it would be well worth the cost, and I was right, it was. I don't feel the same about Odyssey. But if it drops to $15, then I might give it a go. Either that or there's a revolutionary update that fixes everything I personally deem wrong with the DLC to warrant me paying a higher price. It's more about voting with my dollar than being rich or poor or frugal.

The Mormans could learn a thing or two from you, the way you spread the gospel of Odyssey :) Don't worry, I find you a good chap, and I'd be doing the same for my own favorites if it were allowed.

It's more about balance than anything. When I came back to the game after a break these forums were just filled with negativity, vitriol, hyperbole, hate, and dev bullying. I figure there are plenty of people already doing that so I'll counter that by posting things that are positive about the game more often than not. I have issues with it and I do air them but I prefer to highlight good rather than bad when I can.

I can play EDO on my laptop that only has a 1070 (full spec, not mobile chopped) and 4GHz I7, granted only in 1080 and lowered settings. His laptop has a 2070 (can't remember the CPU) so it should be OK in 1080.

As he is only here to play in combat CGs (according to their many posts on the matter) and not interested in anything else, I doubt they will stick around to play anyway, not Horizons or Odyssey.

Odyssey being sold at full price anywhere is a sick joke. Unfortunate for people not knowledgeable to look for the discounts.

Meanwhile, NMS about to release their 25th large update, with plenty of big fix updates inbetween, to five different platforms... for free.

The Leviathan loop? Looks as good as always, if one likes the style, of course.
