Why is it so hard to make credits?

OP while I sympathise with your points (which are valid) it's pointless to try and define your game play by mechanics that no longer exist.

The only way to enjoy the game is to take the journey that is on offer now.

There is no free cash anymore but on the upside engineering is much much easier now than before.

zero risk?!
where? when? what?!

the npc attack only me when i'm at the POI request?

Guess it depends on the passenger, but so far in maybe 50 high-payout passenger missions i've yet to be interdicted .... i don't tend to take criminal ones ... i stick with a very stripped out anaconda (decent shields but unarmed) and high jump range....

Hard to earn credits? No, I think not.

I just got a single mission for 3.5 mil for blowing up 8 skimmers on a planet 12 LY away. That takes all of 15 minutes in a speed-modded Imperial Eagle. Once you reach Allied with minor factions (also not difficult) missions like these are on the board all the time. Plus, there's Hi-RES bounty hunting, doable in a Viper mk. III. Oh, and CGs, where I just made 19 mil from a morning and evening's worth of combat (completely safe from gankers in Mobius PVE and Solo). That's not counting the 10-12 mil I made from the bounty vouchers.

Money is everywhere, you just have to know where to look for it.

Frontier doesnt want players to blow through the minor stuff. They want people to have a reason to buy the adder first, then the diamondback etc etc, without jumping straight from a sidewinder to an anaconda. They want people to build a saga for themselves, and have a history and investment in their own careers. Right now that's kind of dull at times, but eventually the game will be full of life at every turn, and if they designed it from the get-go to not have those time gaps, when they finally got around to filling them, they'd have no place to put that content.
Take for instance, how long it takes to scan a planet. I saw concept art for a very interesting, detailed visual scan. If they gave people a scanner that was instant, where would all that great future content go? "Hey frontier, they new scanner looks cool but now it takes forever to scan". VS: "Hey frontier thanks for making scanning interesting again". You can see this anytime frontier is reluctant to implement a QOL feature. It almost always means they are scrapping a cool idea to do it.

C'mon David, stop ing off the people who have been paying your wages for the last 25 years!

you need to do some research, making money is laughably easier. you need to accept that whilst you may want a money printer, just as many dont, and there are a lot of us who feel the game now caters so much to those who want easy money it has become a joke.

when i started in ED it took me 25 or so hrs to A rate my sidewinder then save for an eagle....... (would have been quicker but i wanted to keep my sidewinder)

i did a semi wipe and restart before xmas with 100 credits in an E rated imperial eagle in a part of space i had no rep... within 9 hrs i was back to an asp scout, A rated, and also own an A rated DB scout and my imp eagle was also a rated.

no sothis type stuff or any cheesing of the BB or mission stacking

Making a money in this game is laughable. I just reseted my account couple of gameplay hours ago and I already runing with good fitted Asp Explorer. And i'm not even using any reloging/refreshing missions table!
I went to HIGH res in high security system with Adder and just shoot at 20% hull pirate ships which were destroyed by the security and made 2mln cr in 30 minutes. Run some missions in ONE system and make some reputation with minor factions, You will get hundreds of CR for one jump curier missions later.
Everyone should quit the game from boredom in 2 weeks because You got only 2h free time in a week? What are you expecting tell me? In what game online game You can make progress playing goddamn 2h in a week?
Frontier! Give everything for free because some ppl don't have time to play the game! /sarcasm

i think it is a common misconception, that you need CR to play the game ... or that there is any "progression" via CR.

Couldn't agree more, I spent the first month of my play grinding credits like mad, getting to type-6 doing trade, then type-7, and I could make 1mil per run which took about 20 mins (half in game, half on my laptop via websites plotting the trade route!), so then got to 100mil CR and I now still play in an Eagle for combat, use a Hauler for exploring (i'm actually quite close to Elite on exploration) so the credits I grinded and grinded for are doing nothing in my account... i'm actually 1mil richer since just playing the game for fun (i.e. finding a system in lockdown and helping whoever I feel I want to win)

"Why is it so hard to make credits?"

Because you play for two hours a week. At that rate, it would take you nearly six months to play through even the 'typical', short, 40-50 hur single player game. Sandbox games are by their nature much larger and demand more play time.

From the perspective of the wider, long-term game and the regular player-base, is it honestly a good idea to rebalance the entire game around someone who plays 2 hours per week?

VIP passenger missions currently beat everything IMHO. After several hours fighting for Teaka in the local CZ, I could not resist doing just another errand in my AspX (shipping a General to 3 spots in the bubble, 279ly max distance) before signing off. 30 mins work, paid a whopping 12m cr, zero risk. Plus, and this is new since the last update, these missions count for explorer rank now, and big time. The mission in question raised my explorer rank from 63% to 79% - at Ranger level, where the progress used to just creep along. I definitely would keep an eye on these.

Another easy way of earning credits, in particular at the early stages where one is short on money, would be taking part in CGs.

[noob]

If money was easy to come by, people would blow through what little content there is even faster. I repeat myself, but the game was designed around wasting your time to artificially inflate playtime.

Lol. Nothing FIXED. Just depends on the background simulation. Faction states change. They will change back to "war" sometimes.

Ciao, Udo

fixed means that you can't kill skimmers for CZ mission, same as pre-patch
now CZ mission requires CZ target.

on the war yes, i know. but atm there isn't

Ciao!

Go to a system (hint: Wu Guinagi + HIP10716), stay there and get allied with the factions there by running simple (bad paying) missions for a few days. It's a thankless grind, but once you are allied with some of them there the good missions will start coming up (like 6-20M tourist missions). The bonus on Wu Guinagi is that most missions go to HIP 10716, and most missions in 10716 go back to Wu Guinagi, which is a 12ly jump. You can keep bouncing between those systems and level up rather quickly.

The data missions pay a few thousand at the start, but as you rep up, they turn into 50-60k each, and when you stack 20 of those, that is 1M per trip. Any ship will do here; eagle, imperial eagle, viper, cobra... data missions need no cargo racks etc so pick the fastest ship to be able to boost away from interdictions and not lose missions.

Once you have 2-3M saved you could get a type6 and outfit it with some passenger cabins and start running the rep missions for slaves/soldiers/passengers and earn even more credits. You can make 2M per leg sometimes, kind of starting a snowball effect by gaining rep and higher paying missions and getting a better ship to take on more diverse missions.

After you get allied the really juicy missions become available, and before you know it you can get a python or conda and start saving up for decent modules.

Tip: Buy all ships and modules at Ray Gateway in Diaguandri, as they have almost every module there and always a 15% discount for modules and ships.

The key is to rank up rep there as fast as possible while you also rank up with the superpower. Once you level up to say Knight for the Empire you will get better missions overall. I ranked up to baron in three days to get the Clipper, but it also gave a lot more missions that pay well as I am allied with all factions in that system. Now I do 20M per hour basically without any of the get-rich-quick exploits that get nerfed at some point. So even legit game play can earn nice credits.

Right now I basically have every ship I want up to the Anaconda, all fully kitted out and have 50-60M in the bank to spend of stuff; when that runs low I do some tourist missions in my Asp and get back to around 60M quite easily and fast.
