Why isn't the bandwidth monitor a wallhack?

It's funny how people justify cheating. And then act all offended when someone else justifies cheating and they don't agree. Just stop cheating. Cheaters. If you have to explain why it's not cheating, it's cheating.

The point is, it's not cheating. And by calling it cheating you are doing a favour to those who use real cheats. They can't get better support, well done.

Don't forget all the other forms of cheating:

Having a higher resolution? Cheating.
Having a bigger monitor? Cheating.
Better input device? Cheating.
Closed the game without calling David Braben? Cheating.
More frames? Cheating.
More bandwidth? Cheating.

Basically we all need to play the game on a gameboy pocket. But you'll need to cut one of your fingers off because I lost one and I don't want you to have an unfair advantage. Oh and before I forget: The same rules apply to solo.

Its glitching. End of. Do this in a proper pvp fps game or something similar and youre booted. It may not be proper cheating, but its deffo glitching. Like lagging on purpose etc.

Essentially its cheating in my book. To use an external element to ones advantage, even if it is in the game, is cheating as it was not its intended purpose to be used this way.

Nope, nobody cares if you display your bandwidth in a proper FPS game. I played counter strike for over 10 years, both public and in various leagues and tournaments. Everyone has netgraph_3 activated. Only if you are in a competive environment, for example in the ESL, you are not allowed to use certain bandwidth monitoring modes. But there you also need to record your whole game session in case the enemy team wants to see if you used cheats. People need to realise that we are not in a competitive environment and that nobody cares.

First of all it's a game option. If it's considered cheating the developers won't even think to put this in game, so no it's not a cheat. Whatever your opinion is it's not the same as FD opinion, so get over it.
Second, in my opinion it's impossible to FD to monitor how i can monitor my router, so like i said before everyone can monitor network traffic using a separate computer and use this feature. Cannot be enforced without changing the game network architecture, which in my opinion will be a good thing, one server, monthly subs and no more combat loggs.
PS: if you don't like monthly subs please consider how bad is pay to win.

Thats because it doesnt help you in a fps game Babel, but as I said 'something similar' that gives you an advantage by using something not intended for that purpose. Such as lagging on purpose etc. It would be considered glitching and no amount of word play will get around this. This is straight forward glitching. If you are not in a competative environment why are people complaining about combat logging? Its in the game? Your argument is lost. It is glitching and you all know it. If no-one cared there would be no thread and no denials. Its glitching.

Kazacy, its not an opinion. Its fact. Youre glitching. Whether or not FD do anything about it, is another thing entirely. I suspect not.

Wrong. Of course it helps you in a FPS game, that's were bandwidth monitoring was used first and the ESL said it isn't allowed during competitive matches.

CTRL B is an ingame function, as long as it isn't disabled you are allowed to use it.

On combat logging, a handful of people complains because they don't realise that they are not in a competitive environment, the majority doesn't care.

What is lagging on purpose? Personally i have a pretty good connection but if i log on a server and i have lag, i disconnect it's pretty much impossible to play. If someone have lag and still play on the same server with me, i pity the poor being and usually it's my favorite target because it's easy to kill.
So no i can't understand how someone want to have more lag.
Glitching in my opinion, means to find some bugs in maps and actively used them to get an advantage over other players. When i found those bugs i report to game developers and play the game as intended. Here on the other hand it's a freakin option put by game developers so i can't report to them as a "bug".
PS: not to mention this option is very useful with the actual network architecture, maybe if they change the architecture to a more unified one..............

In some fps games, you fudge your connection to make yourself lag (i dont know how). This means you effect another player i.e your opponent causing them problems, ie they shoot you but youre not actually there or youve moved. It can give you the appearance of a smaller profile to hit. It effects hit detection etc. I dont know the nuts and bolts of it, but Ive encountered players using this tactic and they can be problematic to hit. I put 3 shotgun shells in someones head from point blank as he kneeled facing the other way, yet he knifed me the very next instant. Thats my most graphic experience of it. But it happens quite a lot. They get kicked mostly by the admins.

ESL, ah proper competitive environment. I note the distinction and understand now what you mean that we are not in a proper competitive environment.

Apparently some people go ways to cheat. Lagging on purpose is done so you get some kind of advantage so your opponent gets outdated data about your location which will affect his ability to hit you. Peer to peer networking is kind of an entry door for stuff like that.

It's not that hard to counter. Just generate enough fake / random traffic to make any reading useless with many false positives. No need for drastic network changes.

The question is more whether there's a real incentive to do anything about it. Open has many other more important issues than this.

True, its not the end of the world and although its glitching, its not a serious game breaking glitch. It is minor in the grand scale of glitches.
