Why no 3rd person?

Without instrument readings on screen 3p view is confusing at best in combat - I tested this in SC, Falcon BMS and DCS. Yes you can peek at your enemy but you sacrifice valuable info about your speed, angle, radar readings, targeting info and so on. At the end it was confusing and quite frankly not that fun swapping between the views while dodging enemy fire.

I think there should be 3 smallish monitors on the cockpit! These would simulate the LEFT RIGHT and BACK views that you could select in the original game! Plus would allow for a rear facing weapon to shoot the bloody pirate behind you!

Everybody would be happy (I think) with this solution. Deploying the hard-points should just block 3p view feature.
I don't think there's any serious opposition.

It would be great for docking

Why not an invisible cockpit? My pilot cannot wear a VR headset?

I like the way the game is now. it feel like your a pilot. Not not a nut being dragged by a ship. I have played games when they had both. Yes 3rd person view has a unfair advantage and ruin the game play for me and I left the game.

Hello,
Personally I like the way the game is now. Not some 3rd person arcade 3D Galaxian space shooter. If I wanted a more indepth complex 3rd person "piloting" I would be playing EvE or this other space game (forgot it's name.) One reason I'm not so keen on SC is because they have 3rd person flyable view.
I've tried the flight sims in 3rd person view and they just simply suck. It seems that they are just there to try and get some more market share from "gamers" (as opposed to simmers.) In 3rd person view, the sim behaves more like GTA with simplistic controls.
I can understand why people would like 3rd person view, I've played WoW too. Heck the reason why I was hooked on Skyrim, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, SWTOR, etc. was because of 3rd person view.

Might as well ask for Halo or COD to go third person. From what I read COD does have 3rd person but it sucks when playing the actual game and Halo needs to be modded to go 3rd person.

If people can accept 1st person shooters for what they are why can't they accept 1st person space flight "sims" for what they are?

have fun, fly safe. o7

I'd like to see it...I'm used to gta and arma games.....he'll even SC let's you have fps or 3rd....

3rd is just good for looking at our characters or just looking around the game world differently........for main stuff I jump to 1st.

No different than playing arma in space

That's why I back SC I suppose though

I'll add my voice to the choir: Third person in any game or simulator absolutely kills immersion or any sense of realism. Let's leave third person to consoley Mario-type games.

We have already external camera for screen shot, we really don't need any TPS view, ED isn't warthunder... I'm absolutly opposed to this kind of things !

War Thunder is a lot more realistic than Elite any way you measure it. Also it has cockpit only view in simulation mode.
Elite is going to fail if they keep listening to fanboy purists like this instead of rational people.

We are keeping a pool on all the 'Elite will fail' predictions. Could you give a date so we can add yours to the list?

"Rational" does not really cut it in the entertainment industry. There have been alot of examples of how a project that should been "rationally" successful having failed miserably (Water World), and projects which "rationally" should have been trash succeed phenomenally ("Flappy Bird.")

Some projects very success, and failure, hinge on the devotion of the "fanbois".

Never played War Thunder so I cannot comment. But, in my opinion a game which allows for full control in 3rd person has to compromise some of it's "realistic" features for game play. Elite Dangerous has had to do the same even though we fly in 1st person (engine startup procedures, malfunction troubleshooting, flight mechanics), can't imagine how much more compromises the devs have to make if they were to implement 3rd person.

I can confirm that WT flight model even in 100% realistic mode is not comparable with WW2 planes from DCS or even Il-2 BOS and because of the nature of the game (competetive MP) is full of unrealistic balance issues. I`m not saying WT is bad - hell no its very fun game, but its far from accurate realistic flight sim.
