Why not just close open play fdev?

I am new here.

There are two people looking to buy this game, lets say they are me and you.

I look and I see 'single player mode', I want that game. When I see MP or MMO, I think, not for me, but it has solo and I want that.

You see MP or MMO and you think, I want that game. You see it has a single player mode and you think, hmm, that's not for me.

We both come to the game with an idea of what it should be but the reality is we both come to the game with what it could be.

And because it has two different modes, it doubles the money it makes by appealing to two different types of people.

And?

If this all we are have in common we are lost.
We have much more in common - each of us decided, immediately before playing the game, to select one of 3 little boxes...

The remainder we have in common is likely to be a shared pleasure in flying around in a pretend spaceship 'doing stuff'

Some of like to do stuff to engage other is ritual, chest-thumping (of something similar) combat to determine who has a bigger something, skillz, isn't it?

Others enjoy engaging with others and playing together - even occasionally blowing each other up, but not with malice, of course...

There are even some who decide their own company is preferred.

but each and every one of us has an equal effect on the BGS - so plenty in common, really!

Open doesn't need "closing", nor does it need to be the "only" mode, "please assist me in finding targets to kill because I can't be bothered to go searching or traveling for them", and "I don't want to PvP so please hide all the scary people from my view"... people just need to remember that 1:1 scale galaxy means 1:1 scale.

You get to choose what mode you want to play in at login. Every. Single. Time.

Don't want to play with others at all? Choose Solo. Want to choose whom you play with? Choose Private Groups. Want to experience a random encounter with anyone who could be anyone? Choose Open.

We didn't did we?
Indeed - as has been the case since the very beginning.
So how can we - ever - play the same game Robert?
Same as always - pick a game mode that is likely to suit ones play-style expectations for that session, and don't worry about what other players are doing.
I Dietger play unrestricted a social game. Honestly out in open.
Which game mode one chooses to play in has no bearing on honesty.

Ich hoffe, Sie genießen weiterhin Ihr ehrliches Spiel, ohne zu bestürzt zu sein, dass andere das gleiche Spiel ohne Ihr gutes Selbst genießen könnten.

(I hope you continue to enjoy your honest game, without being too dismayed that others may be enjoying the same game without your good self in it.)

How glad I am to see you!
Sylveria!

You may excuse us battering still around the some old grounds. How are you? We are, still at it as you easily see.

Your right. The choices are ours.
But we can't help ourselfs!

I do not take, ever! the game from you, you came to play.

S!

I wondered where everyone was when I was in Open earlier on, you were all on here. Bumped into some RP security and ended up winging up while rescuing whining passengers for an hour or so, one Cmdr collecting station debris and that was all. Off to the CGs next time, lets see whos around there.

Personally I'm pretty sure. I think if ED had been a PvP game

CQC Hello, EDs PVP game

it would be far down the lists and have a tiny player-base,

Well OK yes there is that too, I stand corrected. And it has its own special separate to the main game reasons some PVP players hate it too.

Not everyone finds NPCs "easy" - noting that fully half of players are at or below median skill.

.... and given that two of the three paths to Elite don't require the player to fire a shot in combat, and that the game needs to be playable in Solo, it's not surprising that the challenge posed by NPCs is not set at a level that requires players to group up.

You and your factual maths. I spoke to everyone in my echo chamber of choice and they all agreed with non-maths, so there

I'm bemused by the idea that not letting someone explode others counts as "abuse". And if anyone is getting dismantled by this game I wonder what fearsome computer peripherals they have?

Its Maximum Overdrive! Now that would be playing Elite: Dangerous. Or maybe a buzzer and flashing light go off 'Awooga Awooga! Theres a player just logged in to Solo. Awooga!'
