Why Odyssey has so many issues? The problem is the game engine

Everything run like s*** when it's rushed through the door. look at cyberpunk
That's true for game or anything, really.
We can see that :
1°)there is perf issues only on 360 and PS4, not on PC, X or PS5
2°)4 days after the launch, they already knew what the issues were, how two fix them and how long it would take to dev the fix
It is clear that they launched it knowing what they had not finished. I would even bet that they were already working on the first patch before the launch. FDev have still no clear idea of what happen with the game more than one month after the launch.
Do you get the diff ?

To be fair, CP was running smoothly for me all along.
I was mostly talking about the massive variety of bugs. But FPS where very good, and no crashes.

OFC they knew it was unfinished, but the shareholders wanted to bask in the hype.

Fdev knew to. But they were even further away from full release. So they don't know how to fix it. Planet gen was downgraded, requirement posted 24h before release and so on.
 
Pretty sure that is exactly what happened, they reworked the engine to support FPS and worked on lighting. But it proved to be more difficult than they anticipated.
They also add at least tesselation and PBR and improve a lot the dynamic lightening.
