Why the 2.1 Mission Revamp Will Disappoint Me

I'm not in the beta but aren't USSs scannable now from SC? Also aren't there specific locations to go to instead of just parking next to the star? I know these were talked about but I don't know if they're in yet.
That was my biggest issue with missions, you didn't have to go anywhere special and it was very annoying to drop into USSs only for it to be one I didn't need/want.

Yes, they are scannable and yes, there are specific locations you have to go to when searching for specific items/targets, both in space and on planets. There is even a HUD element that comes up and helps you pinpoint what you are looking for when that thing (crashsite for example) is down on the surface of a planet.

So tell me, what were you expecting delivery missions to magically transform into, exactly? I just think that my buddies hadn't decided to hate the mission system from the get-go, as you clearly have decided to.
Isn't my thread obvious? I wasn't expecting anything different.

Also, I didn't "decide" to hate it. I hated it after doing it so many times because there isn't enough fun in it to do it over and over.

I don't know where some of you are seeing the revamp in these missions. I've given you all the benefit of the doubt and spent all last night testing out each type of mission. I don't see much difference. Not a significant difference anyway. Not one that would change my opinion on the system.

Honestly for the delivery missions I don't think it's even the mission itself. I think it's the lack of variety of stations we will see when trading. I suppose whenever you're doing one of those missions, it would be nice to see something new every time you jump into a station. Even if it's something as small as like 3 orcas waiting outside of a station to start their tour of the system. Something as simple as that. In fact I think the game could use a lot more of that in all areas. Just random stuff that makes you think.. "Huh, that's kinda interesting"

Well, let's see from what limited time I've had to give to missions:

Mission involving going to hack a terminal to find the location of someone I have to kill.
Taking a trade mission only to be told that I have to take it elsewhere.
Deliver data to a place, message to do it in a certain amount of time.
More data, warned of incoming bad guys who appear.
Return of the kill "x" pirates, a lot harder as they don't spawn to be farmed, feels more like you need to hunt them rather than them come to you.
Hostage missions seem to be back as well but I didn't get to try it out.
I haven't been able to try that many either but it 90% of the cases, something unexpected happened.

Basically, there are a lot of random things that aren't shown in the mission description which make the missions more fun and involving and the mechanics of some have been changed to make them a bit more complicated and that's a good thing.

USS's now tell you what's in them before you either choose to drop into them or not.

There's a lot of good stuff in this patch if you go experience it.

I'll also say that the missions you receive are based on the ship you're flying. When I was flying a FAS, combat missions galore. When with my Asp Exp, trading, courier missions. This also seems factored into the system and what state they're in.

I'll also say that being "allied" with a minor faction will make a hell of a difference to what missions you are offered and the rewards given so efforts are rewarded.
I can understand how mundane it might look to someone who hasn't become allied, or has access to the better missions, because I'm in space I've never been to before on my way to an Engineer and it looks pretty lame.
However, when in space where I have worked to become allied, the options are definitely there. You just have to work to get the benefits and it isn't necessarily only about the credits, the missions can also relate to the BGS and how it affects yours (if involved) or other factions and such.

Oh, and yea, stations, saw a "two" ringed Orbis Station earlier. Didn't look that different on the inside but wee small things like that, almost like variations on the same theme, are always welcome.

I agree and I also questioned the content.

There are no LOCAL missions (hardly at all) and all require some ridiculous traveling for small profits.

All written the same style dry and unemotional and putting faces to them did nothing for it.
What can they do about it? its not final yet , more improvements will be done. but I dont think they could use the BGS to gen something like MassEffect every time you take on a mission.
For me I am invested in my charecter , and the world around it.

Let me tell you why you don't like the missions. Because they are not a bunch of scripted little story lines that you can play through and win the princess at the end (or the big ship) - by simply doing this and that, solving a few puzzles and jumping through a few scripted hoops. ED will never be that, ...

I'm really disappointed that FD didn't implement a science fiction novel generator that writes Hugo Award-winning plots, and spoonfeeds them to me in the guise of a mission system. They probably could have done that. I'm sure it'd be easy.
/me throws toys out of the pram

FD is incorrectly marketing the "mission revamp" feature in 2.1 because they aren't actually doing a revamp of the missions, they are just enhancing the missions by adding reason to do the missions. The actual missions themselves will remain the same.

I really hope this isnt the case. The missions core needs redoing. The way they target the different ranks, the content and the reward. Taking data for 4k credit reward and your Tycoon is just wrong. Ah well at least now I wont be disappointed with high expectations. Thanks
