General / Off-Topic Why The British Flag? Covas Menu

He does have a point though...

It'll be like having Welsh as a language option in ED, and sticking the British flag next to it.

Come on guys, patriot it up, lets chuck the proper flag in there! St George it up a bit.

St George was just Perseus rebranded for Britain by crusaders jealous of better quality myths elsewhere.

The american flag however, yeah, would make no sense, unless they put one of the many lost languages that belonged to the people you exterminated where the USA currently lies.

That wouldn't make any more sense than using the English flag for a Pictish voice pack.

The official Empire, Alliance and Federation languages?

English.

Americans speak English, a language invented by the British, in England and brought to America by the pilgrims.

Well, brought to and maintained by several generations of anglophones while gradually diverging into multiple dialects...

If American English diverged directly from the English the early pilgrims brought I doubt it would even be mutually intelligible at this point.

There are many languages in the world, English being one and American English another. Jamacia has their own version: Jamacian English, and there are many other versions of English recognised from across the world.

The common theme here being..... English.
What Americans speak is recognised a version of English. English is not recognised as a version of American :D

And, yes, I have read up on this subject as language interests me!

Someone probably got genuinely upset.

Probably...

Anyway, back to the core of the discussion...

What is that stuff the Americans call bacon anyway, and why is it nothing like real bacon?¹

I mean, it's all wrinkled up as if there's no actual pig left in it. I've seen healthier looking vegan food.

¹ substitutes for bacon include, but are not limited to muffins, biscuits, coffee or humour

You forgot about the black pudding you heathen.

ever since I discovered what it's made of.....

Hm, that made me think, if everyone everywhere uses the same language, what is the point of giving it a distinct name instead of "language"? There will still be distinctions like " Solar" or "Achenar", just no reason to call it english anymore. In that case the new COVAS packs are for enthusiasts of ancient languages, like latin today.

The problem is that Welsh doesn't have words for things like hyperdrive etc (and the word for computer is unwieldy), so it uses a lot of borrowed words from English, often transliterated since the alphabets/pronunciations are so different. It would probably end up looking and sounding like some weird hybrid language.
