Why the docking computer unable to undock?

Requires an extra class 1 internal modules weighing a tonne to calculate the reverse algorthm.
The fact that we can do it in 2017 with a crappy $30 computer game is besides the point.

You know what, this short thread just mad my day.
I know it's stupid and I've seen better, today, but this, this has some unique dry comedy spirit that just does it for me.

Thanks for the laugh.

Does seem a little strange, although you can easily program it through voice attack. I have an auto undock/launch programmed for planets, stations are slightly more tricky since you need to adjust for each pad.

Tbh undocking from stations is one of the easiest things you can do ingame, even the Cutter has plenty of room for error.

It is only a antique 68000 brain. The Elite universe never got round doing computers really, everything is mechancal. All those Superconductors is just a lie (its boilers for steam engines) and electronics is all vacuum tubes anno 1940. Our ships works mainly on Unobtanium and Handwavium, which can be substracted from Angel Beams from some suns.
No high tech here...

The clue is in the name!

Oh, i see!

I this case we asking a;
MK II docking and undocking computer.

MK III Docking and undocking planetary sneakarounduntilt's findsthebase computer.

MK IV Docking and undocking planetary sneakarounduntilt's findsthebase, jumpsstartostar computer.

MK V Docking and undocking planetary sneakarounduntilt's findsthebase, jumpsstartostar witchpascesyoutotthetoiletincaseofdireneed computer.

I do hope we don't ask too much? :D

Perfectly reasonable.

So you can go take a bath, while the game plays itself. :p

I'd love to see an un-docking/station exit module. i think that iv only manage twice to exit a station in my Corvette without scrapeing the walls, bouncing around the slot, getting warned for obstruction, hitting other ships, etc...

Best I can do is to put the lights on & keep them central in the slot....& trust to luck.

Same reason the docking computer likes to sit outside the station "waiting in queue" when there isn't a single ship on radar and traffic control cheefully reports "the way ahead is clear" when a Beluga and T-9 are wedged in the slot.

Knowing the way FDEV do modules, the best you can hope for is a separate undocking computer module. If you do manage to persuade them to make a combined unit can you also ask for a universal limpet controller so we don't need a different unit for each function.

To be honest I think Frontier never liked the idea of automatic moving player vessels in Elite Dangerous and that is why we did not get a auto pilot. The only reason why Elite Dangerous got a docking computer was probably because we had one in the classic Elite back in 1984. Nethertheless Frontier proved their unhappyness with automatic flight in Elite Dangerous by limiting the docking computer start to 7.5 km from starport. In the classic Elite you were able to activate the docking computer maybe 50 km from starport. The dockim music increased in lengh a lot, but the working range dropped near zero. Here you see the classic docking computer working:
