Why the unspecified pause after beta?

No negativity attached, I just thought its unusual for FD to run a beta test, stop it, and still not give some sort of date for it to be rolled out to the live game.

Maybe there are some unannouced extra features to be included that are taking longer than expected, maybe there are just some issues that will need fixing. Not being negative, just thought it a bit out of the standard FD operating procedure.

Any theories?

Announcements usually happen on Tuesday. And their is usually a week or two between beta closure and the patch going live.

We know the issues that still need fixing.

It also needs to get cleared for simultaneous console releases (which can only start to happen after the final fixes).

This is standard now.

They may still not know how long exactly it will take to apply the changes they want to apply.
In fact, they may not even be 100% sure yet what changes they actually want to apply.
We'll know when they're done once the launcher tells us "upgrade", good enough for me.

If I remember correctly, when the 2.4 beta ended, there was an almost two week pause before it went live. I believe it is just based on the time needed to process the last bug reports and feedback (internal and external) and add some final polishing, not to mention packaging the final update for the live server. I am hoping 3.0 goes live early next week since beta 3 was "as close as possible" to the release build, which suggests to me there is not a lot of major work left to do. Fingers crossed.

It was three weeks and one day for 2.4

I really hope to see the update to go live until next weekend, because I wont have a decent download speed for another month :(

Even in the final open Beta 3.0 version there were still some fairly big bugs, these are some I have run into myself:

-AFMU repairs are not animated, so you can't see modules being repaired (although you get the audio cues)
-Engineering will sometimes lock up when maximising a level (I had to relog out and back in again)
-Sometimes the UI would freeze during normal navigation

I do wish they would of kept the open beta going until most of the major bugs were squashed (perhaps less time would be needed to polish things then). In any case while I am eagerly awaiting some of the new engineering upgrades for my ships, I wouldn't be surprised if they need several weeks to polish everything.

Really, surprise this isn't obvisous .
They have issues to fix, and don't know how long it will take to iron them out.

Very normal after a test phase

They cannot release until its at the quired level.

Every code change has the potential to introduce more bugs. Code needs to be "frozen" and tested before release, to minimize new showstopper bugs. Unfortunately, I've been bitten by this myself: Introducing a "simple" change at the last minute, which has serious unforeseen consequences. Part of being a programmer is to have restraint and not try to fix stuff at the last minute.

I think it takes 2 weeks for the update to clear for xbox and ps4 so if they are still changing things after the beta closes then it will be atleast 2 weeks.

Certification on Xbox can last from three to ten days I believe, although an update is usually shorter then a new game.
I don't know how long certification on Ps4 lasts.
Since all updates are released simultaneously, Pc, Xbox, Ps4, certification time for console needs to be taken into account.

I didn't play the beta...

that much, but the more I played the beta...

the more I enjoyed it.

As betas...

go, I thought it was one of the better ones.

Why the unspecified pause after beta?

I just don't know...
