Why This Guy Won't Carry Guns on an Asp Anymore

It will still be a few hours until I'm home to help escort if you can wait that long. I'm parked where you're going with heavy weapons.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm still about a week out. Just mulling over the options...

Because of that I'm thinking I'll find a convenient High Tech, turtle up my Asp (better shields, boosters, cells) as the plan won't be to fight anything vaguely dangerous. I'll probably drop into Solo for the final run too. I'll be carrying a month's worth of exploration data, so no point taking the PvP risk (again).

Just had a nasty one. Interdicted by an Eagle, my turrets of doom took him out before I could even get him on screen. Guns away, Hit the jump button, mass lock x24?

Say whaaaat?

I have an A-rated Asp and even with 6A shields I only just managed to survive an encounter with a Vulture and DB Scout wing (both "Dangerous"). I did start to fight but the AI use of chaff and splitting attacker was impressive so whenever I blew away their shields, they'd scoot and I'd find the other on my tail, chipping away at my shields. When the shields finally dropped I decided just to run and jump, good job as when I had a calm minute to examine the module damage I saw that it was my power plant and thrusters that had been taking the damage. Similarly, earlier in the trip I had duked it out with an "Expert" Cobra (who I used to just sneeze at and they'd blow up). On his opening attack run he sprayed chaff like it was going out of fashion and by the time he was bobbing around in a smoking heap of tangled debris I was shieldless and down to 80% - again on checking I saw that my thrusters and power plant had been the target. So I can honestly say that the AI has now become something to be reckoned with (I'm only "Novice" ranked).

I'm glad I was wearing my brown pants when I read your post! Daymn!

Why is it on all the YT vids I see the v 1.3 AI are still utterly useless at even firing back? I sub to SquidOfLove's channel for the ship reviews and he has no issue at all taking anyone out. Its rare the enemy even fires back or hits for that matter.

If explorers are getting interdicted nearly every jump, then this is just another reason to hang it up after turning in my weeks of exploration data (if I even can).

I came back to Lembava an hour ago from a short trip (5 days). I was in a non-armed Courier with all D rated internals apart from A rated FSD and PP. Had no problems at all.

Not saying the threats aren't out there, but I have yet to be interdicted even a single time since I got back. I've been flying around various systems selling data trying to get permits. This is in a defensively equipped Asp (A5 shield, 4x boosters, 1x cell, no weaps).

NPC's now track and keep interdicting you again and again.I got interdicted multiple times where I boost off and dun because my trading ship has no weapons.
The npc just follows me in SC and interdicts me again and again.
Like little rabid dogs.

I do wonder what the difference is between my experience of no interdictions, compared to those who get stalked by NPCs...

Just to reiterate what Porina said on the last page:

When you plot your route back into the bubble, try and make it so you don't pass through any occupied system. I got back yesterday (Elite now wooooo!) and zero interdictions - when I got back I plotted a course through non-occupied systems (except the final one - Bodhinga - first station is only 9.28Ls from entrance) - the non-occupied have zero other traffic (other than SS's).

I'm exploring in a lowly Hauler and haven't found it to be particularly difficult to evade interdictions, haven't failed to evade in a couple of weeks. Is it harder to evade in a larger ship?

Hi. I travelled back to Lembava after a few days out exploring in my Asp in open, no interdictions, though I did pick up the pace in the last few systems. Planning on going back out later. I have noticed that NPCs are getting smarter and more persistent, particularly in missions.

Evading isn't really the issue unless it's a player. The OP was that I used to fight back all the time. Now, in the paper-thin explorer Asp, I always run :)

(...) If worried, look for 5A thrusters and 4A power distro. I'm able to outrun any npc's like Whiterose has said.

I got attacked by 3 (yes three of them) npc Imperial Clippers the other day on approach to a station.
My Python's drive systems are upgraded to the max and I expected to be able to boost away from them as always in case of npc.
But since 1.3 the npc use boost too and after getting away from them initially they suddenly started to close in very quickly and their laser fire was eroding my shields and I was 'locked' by their mass. I decided to jump out system to get away from them.

I love these kind of encounters.

Never travelled with weapons and always run. As others have said, AIs are sometimes smarter and more persistent now and shieldless is no longer an option i feel... One tried to grab me out of hyperspace and was still there at the other end, causing me to emergency stop at the star and use up all my heatsinks before i escaped. I dont think there are more of them though, just meaner...
