Not sure, for the consoles, but if this last weekend is any indication of how the server handle the increased load of the in-flux of players, (mac) then I hope NOT!
This is correct. Xbox players will affect the same galaxy we all play in - take part in Community Goals, flood trading routes, Powerplay etc - but won't initially* be able to directly interact with PC/Mac players.I understood that Xbox cmdrs would affect the sim, but they wouldn't actually be flying with PC/Macs.
* FDev want Crossplay to include Xbox players too, but they're currently limited by MS's Xbox game-patch-testing policy - each update is checked by MS before deployment to gamers is allowed, which can take a week or two. For crossplay to work properly updates need to be deployed to all gamers (PC/Mac/Xbox/etc) simultaneously; if crossplay was enabled for Xbox/PC/Mac 'now' then PC/Mac updates would be delayed until the respective Xbox update is MS-authorised, hotfixes delayed massively, etc.
FDev will be hosting all servers, including for Xbox gamers, to ensure the galaxy is synced for everyone. And to allow them to crossplay later down the line once MS budge on their update-testing policy. This is the reason Dust514 was only released on the Playstation since SONY allowed CCP to release there own patches without SONY interfering. M$ wanted to test patches etc... causing the problem. If FD had a chance they should of looked in to SONY aswel. But i guess Xbox route MAY and i seriously mean MAY just give them the chance to have Microsoft host and maintain a server for the galaxy to swap from P2P to server side...
To be fair if M$ hosted a single instance server for everyone at the cost of having to wait for M$ to test all patches i'd be fine with it since the entire galaxy could interact with each other just like EVE online.
I'm really hoping it's:-
PC - Mac
and then seperately
Xbox - PS4
Xbox is a timed exclusive, so it'll be coming to PS4 at some point.Has there been a PS4 announcement I haven't heard?
FDev have already indicated that CMDRs can logoff their account from PC/Mac then logon to it on Xbox (e.g. from office to living room once kids are in bed).
I'll dig it out. -- I FAILED (so I've amended my previous post, although the following is still logically sound)Do you have a link for the source? I don't see how that would work - surely the Xbox side will be on Xbox Live i.e. using a different account authentication etc. than the PC/Mac clients?
