Will FdL ever get nerfed/brought in line with other ship?

Do you think the FdL will ever get even a slight nerf to be brought closer in line to other ships? Even something smaller like change its engineered boost interval to 6s (still on the fast side of boost intervals) and 15% reduction to pitch/roll/yaw (only adds 0.3s to its 180deg turn time) and something like 15% lower base shield value.

Or whatever. Can we expect this any time in the near future so the "top dog" isn't sooo much better than others that a few other ships may become viable in high end pvp?

You could maybe make an argument for nerfing the FDL if Elite was purely about duelling, and had no multi-ship combat where balance goes out the window fast. Even in duels, experience and skill are more important variables than the ship you're in.

No.

All the factors that make the FDL a good duelist make it an even better wing combatant.

I hope not, why shouldn't a dedicated fighter excel at its role?

It excelled at it's role before it was buffed.

If you nerf the FDL, another meta will just replace it.

The FDL was already 'meta' before it was buffed, but it had a lot more competition than it has now.

The FDL was intentionally buffed years ago to balance the fact that it was a dedicated combat ship that couldn't fight as well as a Python (the Python got nerfed as well).

It's been this way a long time, not sure why it's suddenly an issue now. If the FDL gets nerfed, people will start calling for Mamba and Krait nerfs next.

There's supposedly going to be a PvP balance pass this year.

I'd rather see other ships getting buffed to compete with the FdL, but their approach might indeed end up giving the FdL a double-nerf treatment like it happened with the painite double nerf (base price reduction + infinite demand bugfix) - for example if they nerf the ship, and nerf how shield stacking works.

That one rebalance would lead to the exposure of other imbalances is hardly an argument against balance.

Those ship changes come from before the introduction of engineers and the best thing around were simply A-rated modules. Increased agility and a higher power plant - both things that later on engineers arrived to even further enhance.

Engineering buffed all ships to an insane degree, I'd argue that the real losers in terms of balance with that were the large ships.

I realise it would ruin pvp but I would just love to play sometime in an FDL with an SLF against a suitably tough enemy.

Kind of a shame the game has to be balanced for PVP but equally I wouldn't want to alienate that community and am glad they are part of the Elite universe.

I don’t think the FDL needs a nerf - I actually prefer the Chieftain and I’m sure someone who knows what they’re doing in a Chief would do pretty well against someone who knows what they’re doing in an FDL? Not me, of course ... :)

I do think their should be a Federal and Imperial option that would be a viable choose vs those two but neither FAS nor Clipper seem to quite be decent enough.
