Will OCULUS be late for the party again?

So all bets are on:x
Will OCULUS and ED be on the same page this update?[up]
I am certainly looking forwards to the new look and ship regardless of the turn around but it does make one wonder in anticipation of tomorrows opening bell[big grin]

What do you mean?

You obv don't need to use the Oculus or Steam version, you can use the Frontier one?

? never had a problem with my rift on ED........ only late to the party update was the official announcment of support of the game on the CV1.. i *almost* panic bought a vive when i thought ED may not run on the rift. thank goodness support came in just in time.

Obviously we are not part of the crowd that was left hanging during the last OCULUS update of ED:rolleyes:
Im a patient guy but remember some of the anxiety during the last update when many users did not get a complete update from the OCULUS host.
I imagine this round will be much smoother than the last[yesnod]

That was an oculus service issue, but since I don't use, and see no reason what so ever to use the oculus home version of the game I just patched through the launcher as usual and bypassed this is issue entirely.

Like stated the beta was working as well as the live game in terms of VR.

Also it's worth mentioning that it's been far more cases of the Launcher breaking a patch delivery.
In fact it's to the point where I don't bother patching, I just uninstall the game entirely and reinstall the game from scratch.

I can remember posts from the at least three major releases where the final steps of the patch process has been borked, and the download starts all over again, not for me personally but in general.

Sometimes this has meant people have been unable to play for days, so wondering if "oculus is going to be late" again seems rather myopic.

Better Oculus Dash integration would be one reason, it's the only reason I switched from the native launcher to Oculus Home and I won't be switching back until FDEV pull their finger out and implement Dash correctly in their title.

Hi guys, like Cylon, I switched to home in order to have oculus dash on-board the ship. Have never done a ED patch update through home, will it appear automatically as soon as the normal launcher receives the patch?

Cheers

We're in the same boat, this is my first patch via home also. I have my old launcher based install too, so if there are delays I can just resort back to that.

Dash works fine, only thing missing is being pulled into the white construct instead having it superimposed on the game world.

Pinned windows etc etc works no problem.

So you can pin a window inside the ship without dash? No white background blocking out the ship interior. No need to change now, dash works very well through home, did have to do a separate install of ED though.

I just followed some of the others on the forum and reinstalled the game in OCULUS and it went very well last time.
Tuesday is here and I can find plenty to do at the range so perhaps later on today I will have a seamless sit down and play experience[yesnod]
Have a good day gang!

Yes, and as per my OP, "Better Oculus Dash integration would be one reason".

Pinning windows via Dash in Seemless mode has a massive advantage over trying to pin windows in Void mode - Seemless mode allows you to see where you place the pinned window and is not based on guess work like it is in Void mode. I would hardly describe your experience with Dash as "works with no problem" :p.

Seemless mode also allows you to interact with applications on the fly while piloting your ship providing you use autofocus to keep the Elite window focused. This opens some very interesting possibilities... for example I have a working "Virtual PDA" that I have developed. It allows me to bring up many bits of information you simply cannot access without being taken out of the cockpit under normal circumstances. It also has a fully functional keyboard which is displayed as soon as you open a chat window and has a working 'enter key' (unlike the natively provided keyboard via Dash), works great with the Galmap too. I can also interact with the station menu UIs (and others) via the Virtual PDA using Touch... Honestly, Seemless mode offers so many possibilities...

Anyway, it's entirely up to you where you launch Elite from but if you reinstall with every update and use Dash in game, would it not make more sense to install the game via Oculus Home so you can use Dash at its full potential?

Can someone point me to the location of the ED launcher for Oculus home. Looks like the new launcher is out.

edit - nevermind, it's here on my rig - Oculus Apps\Software\frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous

Hey guys...

New to ED, so this is my first update. I purchased during Christmas when Oculus had a great sale on. How, and or where do we get the update. There's no update showing in Oculus Library, and when I run the launcher it only says "Server Status:Upgrading", but I'm assuming that's server side. Nothing is being downloaded at my end, how do I initiate that? I'm reading that others already have the update downloaded.

Others are probably running the regular non-steam non-oculus version.

Oculus is usually late when it comes to patching elite.

Ok, thanks for that. Now I have to ask, how late, usually? And I'll assume that once the servers are back online we can continue to play with our current version?
