Will PS4 get the Cobra Mk IV?

I have said it before (and I’ll continue to say it again), PS4 never got a chance to buy a Cobra mkIV.
It was a pre-order incentive for the launch of Horizons.
Frontier missed the opportunity to introduce it.

Either a PS4 launch incentive ship or
A Christmas special or
Available for all with the release of 3.0
(For example)

With rumours of 3.1 coming soon,
could we please have it released then as the ‘ship + release’ combination for all.
Or as we are coming up to 1 year since the launch on Sony, could it be released as part of that milestone.
Heck, I would even be willing to have it introduced as part of a CG success mechanic.

I just want to comment. “Wow this thread is still going! Holy crap!”

Ok carry on.

Yes I agree. No, it is not going to happen no matter how many posts on this thread for months to come or the other many threads over the years in the past about it. The Cobra Mk IV was a ship provided to those players who supported the game in the early years as a small reward when Horizons came online. That means something with Frontier connecting with players who supported the game when they needed it.

An option would be that if I like a new player I could sell my Cobra Mk IV to them. But now we are entering pay to play. Not good. Another option is for Frontier to charge £100 to purchase the ship in the store versus getting it for free when Horizons came online with those who supported the game. I'd be OK with that given what I paid to support the game in the early years. A lot more than just the current price of the game. Is owing this ship that important to your game play experience? Are you willing to pay the cost to obtain it? I have a new PS4 account but don't expect to get a Cobra Mk IV without paying for it. It has a history. No new player is entitled to to have access to it without paying a price. But then so many players in 2018 expect entitlement getting it for free when they don't deserve it. You decide.

Regards

Dont agree with any of those arguments.

Both Xbox and PC were offered the Cobra IV as part of incentive to get Horizons. Wasnt about people who had put hundreds of pounds in, as long as you bought Horizons in its first year. PS4 had no opportunity to do that, had it, I would have done so.

It should have been offered as the PS4 pre-order in my opinion. Any player who has it and think others are not entitled are just being selfish imo.

This is the crux of the argument which seems difficult for some to understand. PS4 users aren't asking for special treatment, we just feel we should haven't had given the same privileges extended to other platforms when they pre-ordered Horizons. It's hardly our fault we couldn't take advantage of this first time around. It's as simple as that.

FD should have offered the CIV to anyone who pre-ordered ED:H on the PS4, but they didn't. The chance of them doing so retrospectively is pretty much zero, I reckon. Personally, this makes me feel that PS4 players were only invited to the party when FD realised that this was a new, untapped market to exploit.

The cobra mk4 was an exclusive to players who bought horizons in its 1st year.

Ps4 customers are still in their 1st year or being able to buy horizons

The Cobra Mk IV has cargo delivery advantages a new player can take advantage of if they are smart. It is a lot slower and requires more pilot skills dealing with interdictions. But once they move on to bigger and better ships they will never look back keeping their Mk IV collecting dust in the hangar. It was a sideways much slower version of the Mk III but isn't really needed. It is a trinket Frontier offered to dedicated players but has very little effect on the progression in the game.

Still there is a Cobra Mk IV Owners Club on the Forum who are passionate flying the ship because to start with I suspect not everyone can own one. An exclusive owners club. More power to them. Every ship in the game properly outfitted with an experienced pilot has value including the Cobra Mk IV. The Owners Club has proven it's value time and time again. I love passionate pilots!

The point is some players just go nuts without having access to every ship in the game no matter if they are actually useful per their play style. I can understand this. I own the thing on my original PC account. I could care less on my other two accounts ever getting access to it. Been there and done that. I'll just show it off on my PC account to drive other players nuts who don't have access to it! Sort of website griefing! :)

i own many ships in the game, each serves a different purpose. yes many sit in mothballs as you can only fly one at a time and the older "weaker" brethren come out when new friends sign up so that they don't feel to overwhelmed and i don't get cocky and drop them into situations my for argument sake corvette can sit pretty in whilst their cobra mk3 is struggling.

Debating the fact that ps4 wasn't offered the cobra mk4 when preordering horizon isn't any different than debating why when it's not "Black Friday" can we not buy the black paint job.

I don't get how one can miss out on a deal, sale, offer, etc; Any where in real life or a game. And then expect the retailer to make it so one can still get the deal, sale, offer etc.

I mean, I didn't win last nights lottery winnings, though there are a wide range of reason's why, I'll go out on a limb and say it was probably due to the fact that I didn't obtain a ticket. Though I tried, I missed the cut off time. Thus the winner should at least share with me, because I might have choosen the correct ticket. But was robbed of my chance by the dam time limit.

I am sorry to go on about this but I am going to highlight the unfairness of the situation on PS4.

I am a pre-order PS4 Commander.
I bought the full Elite + Horizons game as soon as I could.

I own 32 out of the 33 ships that can be bought in the game.
There is no way I can purchase the Cobra MkIV

There was no time limited availability of the CIV that I missed.
- PC - purchase Horizons by Feb 2016
- Xbox - purchase Horizons by July 2016
- PS4 - XXXX
There is no permit or rank locked gating that I need to reach in order to unlock the ship.
- Empire Ranks - Courier, Clipper, Cutter,
- Federation Ranks - DropShip, AssaultShip, Gunship, Corvette
- Horizons locked - Alliance Chieftain
- Cobra MkIV ???

Frontier, we are coming up to the 1 year anniversary on PS4, please open up the Cobra MkIV to all as part of the 3.1 (Q2) update.
If the one year anniversary can’t be used as a justification, please can it be added to the Q3 update as it will constitute two years of exclusivity.

I fully suspect that there is a large PC, XBox and PS4 base of pilots who will buy one - please give us a chance.

This makes no sense. CIV was offered to Xpox & PC players if they pre-ordered Horizons before a specified date; PS4 players were not. It's as simple as that.

So you don't feel that ALL players in the Elite universe should be treated equally and given the same opportunities? Besides what you appear to be arguing against actually happens all the time in retail. Sure, 'late-comers' might miss a deal, but they quite often end up with a better deal, for example, GOTY editions of a game which includes all the DLC early players had to buy.

I mean, I didn't win last nights lottery winnings, though there are a wide range of reason's why, I'll go out on a limb and say it was probably due to the fact that I didn't obtain a ticket. But this is just a rehash of the usual 'It's your own fault' argument, so ignores the main reason PS4 players are annoyed and why your lottery ticket analogy is flawed. If you had the chance to buy a ticket, but didn't for whatever reason, then that's your fault, sure.

However, PS4 players have never been offered the opportunity to buy the ticket, so how is it our fault if we didn't?

it's nobody's fault but it's just how it is:

Existing players will also unlock the exclusive Cobra Mk IV ship in Elite Dangerous: Horizons. The Cobra Mk IV will be available in the game only to players who joined us in the first year – forever.

you understand what forever means? that's right, the lifetime of this thread, apparently. [haha]

i would gladly give you the ship and i'd say a majority of cobra 4 owners would too, many would even agree it was a dumb move but it's done, and it's really unlikely that frontier ever backs out of this. it would mean breaking the conditions on which actual sales were made, and it would open them to complaints from an even bigger portion of the player base. it's not so hard to understand.

you guys should really try to get over it already. how this thread is still open is beyond me.

Actually it is somebody's fault, it's the dev's fault for creating this mess in the first place. Back then I'm guessing they never envisaged it appearing on the PS4, but then, presumably, they realised that they could make quite a few extra bucks from the console.

Ah but this is where FD do have a get out, because the CIV was made available to PC/Xpox when pre-ordered in the FIRST year. So, since PS4 players ARE still in their first year, it could reasonably be argued that the CIV is still only being made available to people who pre-ordered the game in it's first year on the specified platform.

Since owners of the CIV are so keen to tell us it ain't so great, I don't see why they would take issue with this solution.

We're still in the first year for ED on PS4, so using this logic, the Cobra Mk IV should be available to us PS4 players. We live in a parallel universe, so you PC players should mind your own reality ;) If cross-platform multiplayer existed, then I think you might have a stronger argument, but if a PS4 player gets the CM4, no PC or XBox player will ever encounter it in Open because we live in a different dimension.
