Will PS4 get the Cobra Mk IV?

You actually purchase a licence to play the game in the state it's delivered.
I'm on your side though; the PS4 should have access to the Cobra IV. Nobody on Xbox minds and I doubt anyone on PC would object.
But it's not going to happen, so that's that unfortunately.

Unfortunately there are folks who would/will object vehemently. They cling on the notion that they paid for an exclusive item.

I think Cobra IV as an unnecessary bonus for supporting the game in its early stages.
Back then I'd given it for a hefty (say 95%) discount to those who are eligible for it now and normal (maybe ridiculously high for such a ship) ingame price to the rest. If some exclusivity was a must, then I'd opted for a timed one.

A slightly churlish attitude if true, imo. The PS4 is an entirely different platform and if a PS4 player had a Cobra IV a PC player would never even see it.

Rubbish talk about legal action is no more than that, it's not a threat, it's an entitled player showing displeasure... like the kid not getting sweets at the checkout, if they were anything like serious they would have to start saving up for legal costs... I'm pretty sure Small claims courts wouldn't address it.

If I understand it correctly (stated somewhere here on the forums) the 'Exclusive'ness' has already been bent for the X-box players as it was initially for the PC users, with the deal showing it's head more than once.

The original deal was to have purchased Horizons by a particular date and that applied to pc and Xbox.

Fortnite dealt with a similar "legal" issue... they sold an "exclusive Halloween skin" and on the following year they offered the very same skin and granted the original owners a unique color to it.

Bringing this concept to Elite Dangerous, if whenever Horizons "promo" was launched it mentioned an "exclusive" Cobra MK IV, this could well mean that you may be able to create a new bundle (Cobra MK IV + "extras") for Odyssey, keeping the exclusivity for the original owners by rewarding them an unique paintjob for it. They are still keeping the "exclusivity" of owning a Cobra MK IV by applying this "one-of-a-kind" paintjob.

This might well be a way out of potential "legal" issues...

Put out a Cobra Mk5, that looks exactly like the Mk4, but have it trade one of it class 3 or 4 optional slots for either a class 5 FSD or Thrusters. Make it useful for something.

I believe that the original deal was to have purchased Horizons by/before a specific date Feb 2016, before the the Xbox release in 2016, (june 3rd - july 30?) I can't remember the specifics but tthe deal has shown up more than once, of that I'm pretty sure, either way FDev chose not to allow the Playstation 4 owners access for their own reasons.

Maybe there will be a deal for the PS5 and Cobra MKV special, IDK

This is a disgrace considering they strung people along. They ought to be ashamed and obliged now to unlock the ship seeing as NPC's rub it in our face on PS4. I own it on Xbox, why can they not release it for PS4 so there's parity between the systems. Ridiculous.

They could have clarified their position a lot sooner, for sure.
The thread's original purpose - Will PS4 get the Cobra Mk IV? - has been answered (see quote) so this thread is now closed. Due to the Cobra Mk IV being offered as an exclusive ship for players at the time of its release, it won't be made available to PS4 players, unfortunately. Personally I'd like to thank Arthur for giving us a definitive answer albeit not the one anyone wanted, and to thank everyone involved in this thread and campaign since it was started in 2016.
