Will repeat myself until this got fixed.

I never get scanned when I am smuggling, you are either doing something wrong or we are playing different games.

I never said I was smuggling. I said I was testing. I happened to notice that NPC's can spot you under conditions that they should be able to. I tested it for several hours very carefully. My observations were correct. Feel free to do so yourself.

Oh, and feel free to read the thread so you know what's actually being discussed while you're at it.

All pilots have eyes. You could stand in the middle of a football pitch being really really quiet, and I could still see you.

The auto-detect minimum distance is "200-300m"* by the way.

Read the thread before replying. It's not hard.

I read the thread, the problem is that I don't agree with you.

Provide your own proof. Grab any ship you want, go to a RES site of your choice, park behind an asteroid and turn everything off. I'm not going to record a 4 hour long video of me wasting my time just to spend the next 2 weeks trying to upload it on my crappy american internet and failing.

You own Elite: Dangerous. I haven't done anything that you can't do. The proof is there for you to witness at any time you find it convenient to do so. The onus of proof isn't on me, because you already have the proof in your possession. Either look at it, or don't, doesn't matter to me.

Why should I bother when I'm not so hot and bothered by it?

I am trying to help you. I am suggesting to you that having something other then angry rantings on a board may get people to take you a bit more seriously.

But suggesting to me that I do your work for you just makes you seem a bit silly.

If you read anything, why did you think I was smuggling when I have not mentioned it a single time? The issue isn't smuggling, it's lackluster mechanics being used to shortcut NPC's to a semblance of functionality instead of them being fixed to actually make the game work.

If you're not bothered by it, and don't wish to learn anything about what you're discussing so that you can know what is being discussed, goodbye.

Do you understand the basic concept of persuasion? Trying to convince people to join your side? To care about a cause? To give evidence that wrongdoing is being committed, rather then just whinging on a forum?

I mean, I understand my username makes it seem like I'm used to giving advice to people who can't appreciate it, but throw me a bone here.

Just dismissing me because I don't blindly take up your cause doesn't really help the perception you're giving off. You're telling me to learn? THEN. TEACH. ME.

Nope, the game works for me so it doesn't need to get fixed in that regard. If you think there is a bug involved create a ticket and do so everytime a new update gets released.

You think that all rules need to apply to CMDRs and NPCs in order to call ED a game, yet there are thousands of games that proof you wrong, because NPCs not acting like PCs is literally the most common thing in computer games.

I have no interest in teaching you, you've already displayed a rather pugnacious desire to refuse to learn anything I offer, and I'm most certainly not going to spend my holidays flying 15,000ly back to the bubble to simply waste several more hours of my time doing nothing to win an argument over a video game on the internet.

If it concerns you so much, despite having stated yourself that it doesn't concern you at all, put the effort in to learn for yourself. I won't be wasting mine. You've made it abundantly clear that that's all I could possibly do by indulging you.

Brilliant Logic. Periodic rainfall is sufficient for me to provide my daily needs for water, so why don't we just stop plumbing the rest of the nation?

NPCs are not affected by ammunition limitations, just like in 99% of all other existing games. You think it's a broken game and the same like stopping to plumb the rest of the nation. Do we really need to argue about logic?

You haven't shown me anything other then anecdotal evidence, that is what I am trying to say. You are convinced that your words carry much more weight then they actually do on this forum.

Consider me to be some random schleb who comes into the thread. How would your words convince me?

I am trying to help you here, but all you do is insult my attitude and tell me to "Go get proof to prove your point." Change takes momentum, you need to provide some.

And we don't care what you think occurs when SJA is programming the AI. It's a simple concept: if you want the game to work, it has to work the same way for everyone, even the non-players. Crap shortcuts like this are why we have a broken background sim and PowerPlay also.

If you want to make a game, you have to make rules that work. Not rules that work some of the time, and have to be ignored otherwise. If you don't have rules that work, you don't have a game.
Period. You just fundamentally don't have a game.

Well, no. Your idea of what makes a game a "game" is inherently wrong.
AI Wars, prime example. That game is based on the very notion of having DIFFERENT rules for AI's and human players. Is it not a game? Does it not "work"?
Or how about GTA5, where the NPC's can NOT pick up armor or eat burgers mid-combat to regen health, while the human players CAN. And they cant stealth, at all.
Different rules, is it also not a game?

I agree, in a game like ED, the npc's SHOULD follow the same heat mechanics and stealth / detection systems. But you cant generalize and say a game isnt a game because the rules are variable.

There may be a better analogy. After rainfall he turns on his tap water comes out you turn on yours the water doesn't

Maybe the problem is not the reservoir but the pipes

Your examples operate under the assumption that these aspects of your examples aren't also problems.

They are.

AI Wars was released in 2009. It's last patch to try and fix the balance (I.E. broken mechanics that weren't working properly) was in 2014. GTA V was never intended to be mechanically sound, and it shows.

My personal favorite is getting a mission to transport slaves FROM a station where slaves are illegal.
Got one yesterday.
Scanned and fined as soon as I started exiting the slot.
Fix this nonsense already. Please.

If you mean AI War-Fleet command, by Arcen games - that is one of the best games ever made and it totally relies on transparent and consistent presentation of information. An AI ship of the same configuration as a player ship is the same. Yes, the AI's themselves are not human and do not think like humans but that is a side detail. The AI has a different supply mechanic but that is transparent and the player can learn about what is different by making observations and assuming the rules are consistent.
Not played GTAV but lots of GTAIV, not seeing the comparison.
You can say a game is not a game if there are more than one set of inconsistent rules. That is the definition of more than one game. That is what game means. You can have a game with meta rules (which by definition are.... meta) - that is what ED is at the moment, a game with internal rules and meta rules that are inconsistent and therefore impossible to draw inferences from.
This makes it painful to try to create an internally and indeed experientially consistent mental model of - something that the gameplay presentation encourages.

The AI cheats used to be more acceptable when the AI was pants on head stupid but now that they're actually smart I think its about time we should roll back the cheats a bit. I definitely think the can scan while in silent running 5km away with 0 heat needs be removed ASAP its there's not even an effective way to counter this rather than just not pick up an entire mission type which is annoying considering how many less missions appear on the bulletin board. And seriously I refuse to pick up any don't get scan missions untill FD posts that they have removed scanning through silent running especially at 0heat.

I think the DBE is just not viable for the job. Silent running is only one part, the other part is speed. Which the DBE lacks. For smuggling I use a Cobra 3 with no weapons, a rated drive, thrusters and distributor. Small 2a power plant, double heat sink, unladen boost speed is 455. Speed is the only reliable advantage. 350 just doesnt cut it..

As far as I remember, security ships will continue to target you and try to scan you if you enter a station while being scanned. I know personally that a rogue security will continue to shoot you while you're on a outpost, and I can only assume the same would apply for scanning mechanics. Your best bet would likely to either let the scan finish when you're entering the station, or actually reset the instance (switching to solo/open).

Not a wise gameplay decision, but realistic. Ish.

Theres no way the AI can compete with real players if they don't cheat.

The AI doesn't even cheat as blatantly as they did in previous patches, so I have no problem with the AI.

If anything they should make the AI even stronger.
