Will squadrons replace discord for groups? Maybe for your group?

What are some group leaders planning on with squadrons? Slowing the use of discord and going to it (because its going to be a heck of a lot more secure!) or just a supplement to the discord?
I have grown to hate the DRAMA platform that is discord and I recently left it because it was ruining my experience with Elite (its amazing how hateful and awful people are over space pixels and chat boxes ). Unfortunately the group I was in was heavy on discord so basically that went poof. Seeing squadrons and it being so close and my hr's of combing through the forums and reddit have not yielded much on the lines of what it will be and how people plan on implementing it in current groups. I love the idea of a IN GAME platform that could allow us to set goals and communicate for things. Also being able to just leave it in elite is nice too.

I hope it has
Daily Missions
Group goals
maybe a op chat
or even a DM\Mail system for sensitive intel!

Or not...and I will just keep doing what I am doing now. >_> its pretty fun...

My favorite communication medium was reddit, back in powerplay days. Unfortunately this is dead now.

Reddit had a slower pace of communication and it made sense to read backward.

I am all for the return of reddit as main-platform for important group coordination.

The day to day chatter may well be done with the new ingame chat.

Yeah PP reddit was awesome back in the day

Lately the Discord PC app has been getting so bloated that I don't run it and just run it from a browser (which I always have open anyway) instead.

No one will be able to answer this for sure until we see how it works.

If reliability of the in game stuff in not better than it has been in the past then people will still continue to use Discord.

Between the guild functions that will be in the game, a microsite and a Teamspeak server, I think I'm covered, I don't plan to create a discord for my guild, we have a forum at HQ anyway. You never know, I might if guildies want it, but yeh, for me discord is not required, so I guess to answer the OP directly, a tentative yes.

To use the in-game chat you need to be in the game of course...

With Discord you can chat with your mates anytime... I think Discord will still be used.

Exactly this...you can be on Discord (or Reddit/Forum etc) on your phone...at work etc etc...thats when you do alot of Squadron Catch Up/Admin (Spreadsheets/Orders/Diplomacy etc) no chance of being logged into Elite on your Work PC/Laptop or Phone...so I don't think a move to the in-game tools for Squadron comms/Management is likely anytime soon...

Discord has the advantage of been accessable out of game, so good for chat OOG and letting others know when you are going to login to play, so I don't think squadron chat will replace it.

Discord or other chat/voice programs will still be used as the in game stuff is mediocre at best. Unless they make it way better I'll be sticking with the cord

PS4 commander in a PS4 only faction.

We use Inara for forum posting / discussions and PSChat for immediate communication.

It'll be interesting to see how this changes with squadrons and whether it is cross platform.

This is one of the key reasons, why I generally avoid guilds with discord. When I have time to play, I will be in the game. When I don't have time for gaming, I also don't want Discord. (And even less I want somebody to nag me to log in to be their healer. Which is what happened more than once. )
.
The other big negative of Discord is that it takes a lot of communication out of the game. That might be perfectly fine if you have a fixed group of players, who always play together and have no fluctuation. But in any guild which is still recruiting, Discord is another barrier to leap over. Anybody who doesn't right away also join Discord is left behind and gets the impression to be in a braindead non-communicative guild of solitary zombies.
.
Something like TS is another thing for me. I join when the need arises, e.g. when going for some challenging content where you might need to be able to quickly communicate in the fight. But I only use it when the content requires it. And curiously enough, it wouldn't even be really necessary in ED. This game actually would have some reasonably good voice com built into the game, if they wouldn't have ruined it intentionally again.
.
I have tried the games voice com and the transmission quality is good enough. It even once was most curious, we had P2P issues. Two of us were unable to see each other, while i was able to still see both of them. But all of us were still able to communicate on the games voice com.
.
But while the transmission itself is good, FD decided to add some buzzing and squeaking noises to it. I mean, i get it. It's about immersion, so they added distortions which are characteristic to analogue radio transmissions. (So apparently our ships com systems are analogue. ) But it also means that after the curiosity effect wears off, this added noise just becomes annoying.
.
That's why we used the in-game voice com for like two hours, then decided to switch to TS instead. If FD would remove those artificial disturbances (or even better: give us the option to tune them down or switch them off), the games voice communication would actually be quite good. Considering that it has no additional overhead (no other program, no need to for address/ip and password), so it can easily also be used when you just spontaneously winged up with somebody and considering that it is integrated into the games HUD (it displays who is just talking on the wing info), i think that it would see much more use, would the annoying artificial disturbances be reduced.
.

Doubtful. Discord is quite superior communication platform and since we know how Fdev does things, im not expecting anything groundbreaking from Squadrons what comes to communication.

The trick is to only join one or two Discords and use them.

I don't see the squadrons interface replacing the tools we already have (particularly the VOIP client), although this depends on how much faction information the squadron interface actually exposes. If the squadron interface necessitates a single leader, with officers and lower ranks, we probably won't use it much at all. It all really depends on how squadrons are instantiated.

It will probably have a role in our Faction, but mainly in special "Live" Operations. It may be a good way for Officers to issues "Orders" (well suggestions), but we shall see.
I expect Discord will remain the normal method for discussion.
1) Our faction doesnt fit in the 500ish limit
2) Most chat is done while NOT playing
