Will the new Odyssey engine require Graphics upgrades for some?

That's a laptop card right? I don't think the 950M is comparable to the GTX 970. Granted the 970 has been superceded by the 1070 but the GTX 970 I believe widely out performs the 950M handedly. My Acer Nitro 5 I think has a GTX 1060 (3G) and even my 970 is better in many ways.

Your upgrade path is likely a new laptop with a better processor/vid card.

The older laptop graphics cards were cut down versions of the desktop counterparts, the new ones are identical, I upgraded my laptop to new model and got the RTX 2070 with it, I can't see any way it won't run Odyssey since I can push it to 300fps if I wanted to go silly. Any modern laptop graphics card should be identical performance wise to the desktop version performance wise.

For those considering an upgrade, don't forget the new line of Nvidia GPU's are dropping next month. If the early leak numbers hold up, I'll be all over a 3080ti day 1.

I'll probably need to upgrade my potato as well. Nothing wrong with it though. It's just the way it is with gaming as a hobby. Every couple of years you need to upgrade your rig and Odysse is as good as an excuse for it as any other game 🤷‍♂️

I believe the new graphics when I see them.
For now all I saw was pre-alpha development footage.
Compare those pre-alpha graphics with what you get now ingame.
I don't think it will run that good on potatoes.
The question is how much you have to upgrade your potatoe.

I have a Maris Piper of a GPU, a GT 1030. It runs OK in 2560 x 1080p at low / medium (steady 60fps station transition sort of 50fps with locked frame rate).

Hi :)

What about my 1070 mate? I'm not going to quote you, it just seems that you know more about this than I do lol! Cheers :)
I'm running (is running the right word ) a MSI Geforce 1060 3 GB Gaming X card, it runs Horizons pretty good, I'm wondering also if it has enough poke to run Odyssey?
Edit, Screen resolution 1920 x 1080.
Jack :)

What makes you think there is a new engine coming with Odyssey?

Seems to me Cobra is more than able to continue running the game - No doubt it's had some love and upgrades thrown into it (About time) but I highly doubt that there is a new engine involved.

i suspect yes, 2080 maybe the new minimum for normal settings, for ultra maybe the 2080ti or what ever is the equivalent on the 3080 or RDNA GPUs
new console will be need to run in ultra and 4k

im ok with it, we need to progress not be held back by people with lower gpus etc

I doubt the game would benefit from increasing minimum hardware requirements to a level that few choose to afford. Frontier "know" the distribution of PC hardware that players use - and I expect that 2080 and above is a rather small percentage of that total.
