Will there be more than 2 New Ships?

It is Zorgon Peterson, so not surprising it is be similar to the FDL (It even has the same thrusters)
The thrusters might look the same but they are not.

Two, Frontier has confirmed this several times. And since both the Mamba and Phantom are easily seen flown by AI in the beta it's a good bet we are getting those two. And nothing else.

I was being a little sarcastic... the thread has run for more than 30 pages but was slowing down... so i thought I'd better checck ;-)

Oh I see now, the article is using E rated ships laden. So yeah the Mamba likely jumps similar to an FDL and the Phantom likely jumps a bit more than an optimized Krait II.

I was hoping for a Phantom which could at least match the Asp X for range. We’ll have to see how far engineering can push it.

I never expected it to rival the AspX, but it will certainly be a good explorer ship. I find 40ly easily good enough for me in my Krait mk2.

I think getting the PC in q4 is wishful thinking, nothing more. What I’d really like to see in the livestream is some crumb of info as to the PC’s status. Yay, nay, soon(tm), something...

Holy ship ! It was the 2014...
O_O

affter 4 years the panther clipper is still a myth... i wonder why

Yep. There's a good reason why the Panther Clipper is brought up very often by the community. I still think its super odd we haven't heard any news about it in so many years.

Actually I think it might be better than that for explorers…

The Krait II has an E rated laden range of 7.66lys, but with engineering it can reach up to 63.4lys while in explorer trim with SRV. That’s an improvement ratio of 8.28.

Since the Phantom is a variant of the Krait II it’s a good assumption it will have a similar improvement ratio via outfitting and engineering, so 8.23lys * 8.28 = 68.11lys potential range for the Phantom, outfitted and engineered similarly.

That’s not Asp range, but it’s better than Orca range. And if the Phantoms hull mass is lower than the Krait II then the end result might be better yet.

That’s promising. Not what I was hoping for, but the little details might make it better than we can theorycraft right now. If it can jump that far then it might actually tempt me to mothball the Asp X for awhile.

Heh, that is the difference between our two exploring-styles. My estimates will always be a big chunk lower than yours. :)

Because the T9 is pretty much as big as it gets with current mechanics. So the Panther is either underwhelming, or requires additional mechanics.

How would you even balance such a beast. The Cutter is already borderline OP with it's cargo space, naturally the Clipper would be even bigger. It's probably for the better that it's not in the game.

Pity the Krait Phantom didn't get 2 small hardpoints to make up for the large one it lost from the Krait MkII. Which would've made it the perfect mining ship, 2S and 2M for all the mining equipment and still have 2L for self defense. Would've been a bit of a Mary Sue ship, being able to combine the firepower of a Vulture with all the mining and exploration tools on a medium pad. The 'hero' ship is still the Krait MkII IMO.

Personally, if it's so big, I'd be cool with planetary landings only. They could do that now if they tried, or cared. It would open up a re-supply mechanic from on-planet to station or system, just as a quick example.

I am sure Fdev had said that due to its size it would require external refueling, so new station mechanics would be need to be designed. Then there is also station cargo movement to be considered.

This may also affect the incoming carriers so might see the Panther with that update ?

All that you say is true enough. My point is, they could have added it sooner with too much trouble. Re-supply/logistics/game-play details could be worked out later. Keep them planet bound temporarily if they must. Shuttling or re-fuelling could come later.

I hope there is at least one more new ship to be revealed, a Guardian/Human hybrid ship from the g.tech broker. I haz lots of Guardian materials ready just in case.
