Window Central's review of Fleet Carriers

Elite: Dangerous is an excellent game, but it has a core, fundamental problem: you, the player, don't matter. Nothing we do does anything in the scope of the game. Sure, FDev can talk about the Background Simulation all they want, but there aren't any narratives, no matter how small, that make us feel like we matter.

I better forget all the fun I had (and still have) with mine and decommission straightaway. Thanks for the heads up.

Oh wait, did they only just work that out... that was the whole philosophy of the game... you are no one special, you are just some unwashed space bum in an unloving universe that frankly couldn't care less if it smokes your backside for getting stuck in the toast rack.
You are not some chosen one... if it took them THIS long to work that out, they shouldn't be reviewing games frankly.

Reminds me of some music reviewer critiquing the live performance of the Smashing Pumpkins with "Why did they play a 30 minute encore that no one has ever heard" Yeah, the covered a Pink Floyd Track.... it's like... get another job because you are clearly bad at this one.

Well, the reviewer is kinda busy running the site which covers a lot of stuff, so.....yeah. And he's a fan of the game, he's written a few artciles on it previously. His opinion (aka review) is as valid as anyone's, and it doesn't effect anyone's enjoyment of Fleet Carriers.

I see nothing bad in the final suggestions. To be honest it’s what many players already wrote here.. remove upkeep, give some more reason or meaning for owning one of them.. for example a bigger impact on the bgs, possibility to see the jump animation

"First improvement to Fleet Carriers? Do away with the weekly upkeep. It's not fun, it doesn't add to the immersion, and the initial price tag was more than enough to make us who could buy one feel cool. Don't sour the experience, since the tritium requirements alone are enough of a "maintenance" cost."

Shout it from the hilltops.

Sold mine. Waiting for Odyssey. I can see the benefits if you run with a squadron that plays consistently, and it's kinda nice to be able to bring your whole fleet with you to engineering systems or when exploring, but it's a giant money pit... and it's on fire.

The activities revolving around carriers are sparse. You can't see your carrier jump. The economy is tied to EDDB and Inara, because when people want to buy/sell a commodity they search those sites for the best prices and nearest locations. The player driven economy through FCs is a lie. Not to mention, the upkeep.

Tried it out. Wasn't impressed. Waiting for balance updates to fix the absolute mess FCs and mining has made, and waiting for the real content to come next year. Fingers X'd.

What is he talking about here:
Third, give us something cool to look at as the ship jumps, not just a wall and ticker. Does this massive FSD make Witch-space look or feel any different? Tearing a hole open in space itself is cool, but I want to see it. And since we have sound in our ships, can we get some cool sound effects during the jump sequence? Maybe the massive FSD spooling up, the crackling tears in space, something.

His gripe against the sound effects... Is this a typo? Because he's asking for something we already have.

This feels like a redundant statement and a general admission of the problem these days.... if a reviewer isn't able to actually do the work to produce a review that is not full of fluff and opinion-ONLY without showing alternate view points or admitting bias, then they shouldn't even bother.

Like wise for a lot of the VIP salt miners on youtube too... Whats that? Don't understand anything about statistics and deterministic random numbers... then don't talk about engineers please, because its the same as asking for medical advice from a car mechanic...

What ever brings in the money right?

Yeah, this shows as a reviewer he isn't reviewing, he is salt mining and probably hasn't played the content that he is moaning about... see my original post in regard to music ;)

That or he is playing without sound, and complaining at FDev that there is no sound.

"you, the player, don't matter"
They obviously have not played the Mass Effect trilogy.
Still recovering from that one...

Fleet Carriers still need to be removed from the game, and the game possibly be rolled back to before the crazy mining imbalancing of income (I wouldn't like that much, as I spent very little time mining and would not like to lose my exploration efforts).

All we are seeing are more issues with fundamentally flawed game mechanics introduced with the carriers. And whatever people may think, making them even more absurdly broken will not make things better.

Back to the drawing board, FD. The carriers are a great idea, but why not spend a bit more time implementing them right? Even something as simple as running scenarios on their impact and usage have obviously not been done.

:D S

Not sure what the guy is referring to.. the sound is actually the only cool things about FC jumps. The only letdown is the hyperspace sounds because it’s a copy-paste of the ships hyperspace. Also the main structure deformation sound is the same throughout all the ships
